Publisher's Summary

A woman dies in his arms...a drug dealer offers him $10,000...a gunman is determined to kill him. And then everything went to hell.

Shelby Alexander is an aging ex-boxer and retired fixer whose activities often flirted with the wrong side of the law. Looking for a little peace and a slower pace of life, he moved to Serenity, the small Michigan town where he grew up. But trouble follows men like Shelby, and he finds himself embroiled in an underworld of drugs and violence that may prove to be his undoing.

It seemed so simple: 10 grand to ask a few questions. He should have known money complicates everything, especially when the infamous Ellis family is involved, and when a small army of downstate dealers and a shadowy gunman all turn their sights on him, Shelby decides things have gone far enough. And he won't let the law stand in his way.

The first book in the new Shelby Alexander Thriller series, Serenity is an action-packed audiobook with a lovingly rendered cast, witty dialogue, and a main character who doesn't know when to quit.

    Story
    "Nice surprise"
    Any additional comments?

A good little mystery, action-packed and with enough surprises to keep me on edge.
The main character, Shelby Alexander, is suitably flawed and no longer entirely young but is an interesting guy who is likable and by no means a superman who handles everything perfectly. He is divorced with a 30-year old daughter who he was estranged from as a result from of a somewhat messy divorce from her mother. The relationship with the daughter is still not perfect, but it is getting better. He has a girlfriend who is 30 years his junior, that too causes complications. Not easy for a 60-year old former boxer with arthritis and other issues.
But all in all, it made for a good story and I'm fairly certain I will be picking up the next volume in this series.

    "A Mystery to be Solved."

This story was pretty good. The narrator did a great job. I enjoyed his character voices. There was even a little humor.

    Story
    "Stilted"

The narration of this story was choppy and stilted, as if the narrator were reading every word independently. The story had too many adjectives making it long and tiresome. I don't know why I continued to listen to the very end.

"I had to struggle to finish..."

I had to struggle to finish listening to this book. The narrator just was so monotone and it was hard to keep track of who was who because the lack of varition in his voice. Maybe it was just me. but I found it hard to listen to. The story was really good I think with a different narrator it probably could have been excellent.

    Story
"Larry, Daryl and his other brother Daryl"

Overall, a really good story. A very likable hero and his appealing girlfriend, and gang of slightly cartoonish ruffian outlaws. The narration threw me off at first but I learned to love it....it was like listening to the aforementioned Larry. It grew on me and actually make some of the wry observations and funny lines really pop out and I laughed out loud a few times.

    Story
    "Mr Alexander rocks!"
Would you listen to Serenity again? Why?

I believe I would. The characters, the story and the narration made for a very pleasant "read".

What did you like best about this story?

The story itself was good. But the way the characters were done was great and Mr Alexander simply rocked.

Which character – as performed by Theo Holland – was your favorite?

Hard to choose one. Theo Holland did a wonderful job with each and everyone of the characters. They came alive.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I wouldn't say my reaction was extreme, but this book had me smiling more than once.

    Any additional comments?

I didn't want it to end.

    Story
    "Big trouble in Serenity"
    Any additional comments?

The town may be called Serenity, but don't let that fool you. The this small town thriller is loaded with action. Interesting characters, good plot, and the story never slows down. I'll definitely be continuing with the series.

    Story
    "So much potential unrealized."

This story had so much potential. I thought this even after getting into it. The author could have done a lot more character development. When it began to wrap up, it just seemed too quick and clean, leaving me thinking, "Wait; that's it?" In addition, the narration sounded like a man simply reading the book with little to no emotion added. In fact, it overwhelms the story. Speaking of, I couldn't understand why when the story is set in northern Michigan, the characters sounded like they were from rural Arkansas.

Anyway, go listen to a different book.

    "Old doesn't mean decrepit."
What made the experience of listening to Serenity the most enjoyable?

The narrator makes the characters come to life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Shepherd Ellis cracked me up.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Shepherd Ellis describing what he'll do to get his way.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yeah, I laughed at several of Shepherd's & Mack's comments.
