Publisher's Summary

In New York Times best-selling author Richard Castle's newest novel, an illegal immigrant falls from the sky and NYPD Homicide Detective Nikki Heat's investigation into his death quickly captures the imagination of her boyfriend, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jameson Rook. When he decides to work the case with Heat as his next big story, Nikki is at first happy to have him ride along. Yes, she must endure Rook's usual wild conspiracy speculations and adolescent wisecracks, but after reuniting following his recent assignment abroad, she's glad for the entertainment, the chance to bounce ideas, and just to be close to him again and feel the old spark rekindle. But when Rook's inquiry concludes that Detective Heat has arrested the wrong man for the murder, everything changes.

Balancing her high stakes job with a complicated romance has been a challenge ever since Nikki fell for the famous reporter. Now, her relationship lurches from mere complexity into sharp conflict over the most high-risk case of her career. Set against the raging force of Hurricane Sandy as it pounds New York, Heat battles an ambitious powerbroker, fights a platoon of urban mercenaries, and clashes with the man she loves. Detective Heat knows her job is to solve murders. She just worries that solving this one will be the death of her relationship.

"This is a fun detective series...."

written by unnamed author(s) using the pen name Richard Castle. It is a takeoff on the ABC detective series Castle with the main characters in the TV series being writer Richard Castle and NYC police detective Kate Beckett. The names of the main characters in the book series are NYC Detective Nikki Heat and magazine writer Jameson Rock. This 7 novel series is interesting, light and fun. Robert Petkoff narrates the series and does a great job. The novels are quite good, but do not in my opinion rate five stars. Raging Heat is the 6th book in the series.

"Good, but not as much fun as earlier efforts"

There were large stretches of this story that I didn't particularly like where Rook and Heat are at odds and even the team of detectives are not working together well. I very much enjoyed the performance.

    "Another hit!"

I just can't get enough of both the TV show and the book. Peter is an excellent narrator I have had a wonderful time listening to other books that he narrates. I would recommend this to anybody who is a Castle fan and a fan of Richard Castle books. And now onto the next one…

    Story
"Always felt like something was missing."

I don't know of another way to phrase it but it always felt like there was something missing from the story. Perhaps it was the lack of red herrings. Perhaps it was the surface nature of each individual you meet in the book beyond the core. (With a notable exception for Capt. Wally Irons.) Perhaps it was something else, such as a new ghost writer or a shorter deadline. What I can tell you is that while the story was delightful and fun, the tension didn't really feel that tense despite the obvious mechanics (hurricane) meant to help spur the tension on. The language also didn't feel as cheeky as previous books and efforts. Essentially, it fell short of the previous novels and the warmth of the show that the other books had.

Don't let that discourage you though. It's a delightful tale of peril and its pacing as a thriller is a pretty good clip but it just won't knock those socks from your feet.

"Love these books! Great way to stay connected to the show"

I've been listening to all of these for a while now and I just love them. The writing and the stories are both terrific. Fun, suspenseful and a nice companion to the show. Really excited that more books are being released!!

    "Fun Story"

I enjoyed this entry into the series. I think the relationship and case drama added a nice new element to keep the story fresh.

    Story
"A good story, not a great one."

A decent story, but Nikki seems very alonewitty through most of it which is a bummer. Also, another drawback is there doesn't seem to be as much of the banter.

    "raging heat was on fire!"

Richard Castle does it again. Raging Heat was once again an exhilarating and an addictive read. I never know what is going to be around the corner. everytime I think I have something figured out, it turns out that I don't. I can't wait to read the next installment in the series!
