Publisher's Summary

A collection of short stories featuring the redoubtable ‘heart specialist’, Parker Pyne. This volume, in its contemporary Agatha Christie Collection livery, perfectly illustrates Agatha Christie’s critically–acclaimed foray into light-hearted, romantic mysteries.

Mrs Packington felt alone, helpless and utterly forlorn. But her life changed when she stumbled upon an advertisement in The Times which read: ‘ARE YOU HAPPY? IF NOT, CONSULT MR PARKER PYNE’.

Equally adept at putting together the pieces of a marriage or the fragments of a murder mystery, Mr Parker Pyne was possibly the world’s most unconventional private eye – and certainly its most charming.

Critic Reviews

"Crimes of the heart were his forte." (Observer)

"These extend beyond the classic murders to oddities such as the exploits of Mr Parker Pyne, roly-poly 'specialist in every kind of human trouble' who will, for a fee, cure his clients of unhappiness." (The Sunday Times)

Story Telling at its Best

I admit that I am an Agatha Christie fan from way back and I have read all her works more than once, but it has been a while since I visited the pages of Parker Pyne Investigates. I was drawn to the audio version because of the narrator, Hugh Fraser, who has acted as Poirot's dear friend Hastings in many television episodes. His understanding of Christie's literary world added a lovely depth to his narrative style. Each short story came to life in my mind and I had the best time travelling with Parker Pyne and all of the bigger than life characters as the vintage Christie plots and mysteries unfolded. Lots of gentle listening fun for Christie lovers!

Entertaining but a little too forced

Hugh Fraser's recitation is, of course, excellent as always. But you can tell this is one of Agatha Christie's earlier works – it's a bit heavy handed, and a bit arch in places. Still, it has an entertaining tone.
