Award-winning author William Kent Krueger has gained an immense fan base for his Cork O’Connor series. In Ordinary Grace, Krueger looks back to 1961 to tell the story of Frank Drum, a boy on the cusp of manhood. Critic Reviews

“Krueger aims higher and hits harder with a stand-alone novel that shares much with his other work.” ( Kirkus Reviews)

Best book I never read

Beautiful story beautifully read. I cried as it finished - for the story and because it was over. It has a sorrowful resonance with all of life.

The compassion

Nothing, felt the characters were well developed in relation to the time. Enjoyed the characters and the story

A very philosophical piece of writing

I enjoyed the story; there were parts I liked and parts I didn't. It is very beautifully written and complex piece of writing. Much thought was displayed. I totally agree that any situation is the total sum of those who experience it. No one will have exactly the same view. The story was a parallel to everyone 's life; there is not just one storyline, but multiple events which occur simultaneously, creating the complex fabric of humanity. I didn't like the constant religious references, but that's my philosophy, and I could have strangled Jake with his constant whining. Also, the narrators constant he said, she said, I said annoyed me no end.

A delightful gem

This is not the type of book I usually read but took a chance and was absolutely delighted at both the story and the narration. I could have listened for hours more.

Wisdom in life learned the hard way

I really enjoyed this book, I thought the narrator did a great job too.
I found the second half gripping and hard to put down and wish I’d concentrated more on the character development early on. I enjoyed the themes around learning/gaining wisdom through experience and unfortunately that is often through the death of someone close to you. I also enjoyed following the relationship of the 2 brothers.

Good and gripping

I enjoyed the story and the narrator is great. I would recommend it. But it won’t be a book that stays with me like some of the other greats.

Predictable

Story was simplistic and predictable. Thère was so much potential here as the characters were varied. However the ending was too simple.

Too much religion

Quite a good story but it came too close to proselytism in parts. A pity.
