Certainly a story that kept me listening, I wanted to find out how it would end, but totally unbelievable. The performance of the narrator was excellent, helped keep the mood of the story just right.
"Avoid if suffering from depression!"
In the beginning it held me in suspense wondering where it was headed..(a lot of flashbacks without full explanations) cold, clinical, no warmth by the end it was a fizzle for me with not much of a twist. I was expecting more depth to the characters & an emotional bond to them, I didn't feel it.. Without trying not to give anything away, my heading states it all! If you're looking for an emotional love story there wasn't one for me. It is not a dark book, just depressing!
Would not have given it such a depressing ending!
Simone although didn't differentiate from male to female, as the female part could not fault her & was able to get through the book thanks to Simone's narration!
Sad to say was expecting more.. got less!
Jesus Christ. This was a very well thought out and thorough novel. The writing is out of this world amazing. I have to say, if you are looking for something that is optimistic and makes you feel good, look the other way. Well, I guess it could be considered optimistic, but in a really morbid way.. This book is so honest and raw it will tear your heart out. Then whack it against the wall a few times. I feel a little traumatized.. But in the best possible way. ;)
The narrator was great as usual. She effortlessly brings the story to life.
Definitely worth the credit!
"I loved this book!"
This book is twisted from the very beginning. I loved it and found myself glued to my chair listening to it.
Cenna doesn't let anyone close to her. Christmas is the worst time of year for her as everything bad happens on Christmas. Now Cenna and a Doctor she has becomes friends with have been kidnapped.
This is my very first read by the author, Taryn Fisher. I enjoyed this book so much and found the plot to be very original. It is sick, twisted and it held me captive too. I just couldn't walk away from this book! The narrator, Simone Lewis is fantastic also. I loved the accents and multiple voices she used, along with the emotions in the narration!
I am half way through and trying to stick with this. Very hard though. The lead female character is putting me into a deep depression. It's just not going anywhere.
"I wanted to like this!"
I was mostly intrigued by the story line. Overall though I disliked the character. She wasn't realistic in my mind and her inner monologue kind of drove me nuts. I think this was compounded by listening to it aloud.
Probably! You can tell she knows how to create a compelling story. It was just this particular character I found disagreeable.
Felt kind of monotone.
I wasn't disappointed per say...it's just not the type of genre I like but because it was Tarry, I had to check it out.
I'm still a bit like "What the he## was that? What did I just listen to?"
I think the waking up in the "cabin" part.
I think it IS what it is and I can't be more judgmental than this small review.
"One Word: WOW!"
She was great! She conveyed the characters emotions very well.
I felt extreme sadness at the end.
Tarryn Fisher is a master storyteller! This was a very disturbing but at the same time compelling story. I was riveted the whole way through. I felt the emotions the characters were feeling which in my book is a sign of a Master of words!
Great story and performance the complete package. Will leave you thinking it's very deep. I was not able to put it down.
"Brilliant, mind-blowing, and thought-inducing"
This was the very first book by this author that I've ever read, but it won't be the last. A perfectly executed self-discovery and acceptance story.
"Absolutely a 5 Star Compelling Achievement"
This has to be one of the most well narrated and well written books I have read in a very very long time. There are so many elements to this storyline that everyone of us can relate to, whether the struggle, pain, loss or victory over those things and ourselves. This story leads you through such a journey with and amazing understanding of the fight we all face.
"Just not a good read."
Spoilers! Spoilers! Spoilers!
The whole story was unrealistic. How in the world can two man possibly love such a hate filled, repulsing, selfish, lazy, rude and unstable person such as Senna.
The kidnapper thing just falls short in every way, not having any real reason to have done it in the first place. I have never seen two people who have just been kidnapped doing puzzle pieces and taking shots. Wth?
They were practically in vacation most of the time as they had everything they needed in that cabin. Never had I wanted to finish a book so fast. It was boring and the main character killed the story for me.
I understand she went through hell but regardless of what she went through, she had no right to treat others the way she did. Others that just wanted to help her. Overall it scared me off reading any more books by this author unless she gives better personalities to her female characters.
