Jack Reacher has no place to go and all the time in the world to get there, so a remote railroad stop with the curious name of Mother's Rest seems perfect for an aimless one-day stopover. He expects to find a lonely tombstone in a sea of nearly ripe wheat...but instead there is a woman waiting for a missing private investigator, a cryptic note about 200 deaths, and a small town full of silent, watchful people.
Reacher’s one-day stopover turns into an open-ended stay....
Fasten your seatbelt for another nail-biting ride from the kick-ass master of the thriller genre!

The story got darker and darker and i only persisted hoping is was not going to end the way it was heading. But in the end the story ended up n a very dark and disturbing place not what i was hoping for and i now regret listing to the end!!
I'm extremely disappointed at the story because this is not the Jack Reacher that i am use to.
I hope that any new books don't follow this book into such depravity
The concept and the "twists" were really interesting and there was a malboro man charm to the narrative that made it really easy to get caught up in. But once you realise all of the characters, especially the female lead, are thinly drawn and serve only to pose questions for the lead character to answer it all starts to feel a bit unsatisfying. The narrators voicing of the female lead made that even more pronounced
While I i did enjoy this book, it is not a typical Jack Reacher novel and lacks Child's usual great descriptive paragraphs. There are also no details or mention shared about Jack Reacher's past. ..most unusual for a Lee Child Jack Reacher novel.
I have read a few jack reacher stories and so far they have all been fantastic....this one i forced myself to finish it. The story was slow and really didnt get anywhere until the last 2 chapters. not my favourite thats for sure
I liked the story, but found the narrator to be almost bored reading it!
He sounded like he was reading off a shopping list.
I honestly could not finish the book due to the boring narration. I will go and get the book and read it myself. This was my first real audio book and found it to be most disappointing.
I was reverted to my seat, he couldn't read fast enough for me
The twists, even though i thought i kbew what was coming there was more
Hold on to your seat
"Best Yet - a must"
Fantastic plot, great character development. Jack Reacher is developing emotionally. Jeff Harding was born to be the voice of Jack Reacher. The narration is superb as always. I highly recommend this book.
"Another brilliant Reacher novel"
I love the Jack Reacher books and if you are a fan, you will love this one too.
If this is your first, then enjoy a great book and the start of a wonderful journey.
"What a great book!"
I've had to return a few books recently because the story was poor or the narrator wasn't good so It's a relief to find a book where everything comes together to create the perfect experience. It's a gripping story that builds at a cracking pace to a very exciting conclusion. Jeff Harding IS Jack Reacher for me.
"Jack back on Home Turf"
You've gotta love Jack Reacher! I thought I was going off him after the previous installment (Personal) which just seemed to lack something. But this is a genuine return to form. Reacher once again walks into a situation and Child reveals everything gradually building the suspense with his usual aplomb.
Jeff Harding voices this superbly, he is much more suited to the accents in this book than he was with Personal and in this context I think I could spend an hour listening to him reading just about anything! fantastic voice.
So, if you liked Reacher before you will like him again. To anyone who hasn't read Reacher before, the novels can be taken in any order if you want to.
I'm not sure any fan of Lee Child would enjoy this book
It feels like it wasn't written by Lee Child
The narrator was the best bit about this book
The whole book needs rewriting
I am disappointed that the last 2 Jack Reacher books feel like they have been written by a ghost writer and not Lee Child himself. He should be embarrassed.
After listing to all the others back to back over the last few months, I found this very disappointing. The story started after about 6hrs.
"Trouble with Reacher"
I do not feel the author has come up to his usual standard and since seeing the film "Never go back" with Cruise as Reacher I now find it difficult to visualise a 6ft 5in 250lb blond crew cut ex soldier sorry but both the author and his character seem to have lost it.
"Interesting in bits!"
The story was interesting, as I didn't really see where it was going for a long time, which was unusual for a Reacher tale. It was pretty twisted, and made me wince a lot during the last couple of hours. The interplay between Reacher and Chang was pretty familiar for the most part, but it was interesting to see Reacher beginning to show some vulnerability - not sure if this will go anywhere. And for the first time, he really seems to suffer at the hands of a baddie.
So lots to like but with elements of the so-far-so-familiar Reacher story. Enjoyed.
Jeff Harding - just fab, as always. I am in love with his voice.....
I would give it a story. The first half was really bad. Nothing happens.
Yes , other book of his are better and there is no reason to assume future books wont be as good.
Not sure as the story wasn't great it's hard to tell how good the narrator is.
"Long awaited, but a bit of a let-down"
Either Reacher or Lee Child are showing their age - the story was very long-winded, with less action than usual- if Reacher's head is getting soft, is it time to finish him off?
"Lee child flop"
Having read and enjoyed all the Jack Reacher books this was by far the most boring with endless pages of small irrelevant detail.
It smacks of a forced effort
