From NY Times and USA Today best-selling author Jana DeLeon, the second book in the Miss Fortune mystery series.
No one in Sinful liked Pansy Arceneaux, but who hated her enough to kill her?
When aspiring actress Pansy Arceneaux returns to Sinful, Louisiana, to head up the beauty pageant portion of the Summer Festival, CIA assassin Fortune Redding knows she's in for trouble. Her undercover identity as a former beauty queen makes Fortune the perfect choice to chair the event with Pansy, but Pansy's abrasive personality makes it impossible to get through a single rehearsal without a fight. When Pansy turns up dead, Fortune is the prime suspect.
Armed with only her wits and two conniving seniors referred to locally as The Geritol Mafia, Fortune launches an investigation to find the real killer before her cover is blown.

"Second as good as the first!"
The story was creative, well written and a good solid mystery.
Fortune, Idabel, and Gertie are always great. You also cannot forget Carter, Ally, and Walter for their contributions to the story.
I love listening to Cassandra Campbell. I loved the narration in the first book in the series. Many people say they could listen to her read the dictionary. I would have to agree.
The friendship that has developed between Idabel, Gertie and Fortune is especially interesting simply from the perspective of the dramatic age differences. However, the depth of the relationships and the fierce intensity with which they protect each other is very fun to see.
Though this book series is probably aimed at women, I have been so glad that I happened on it. I like spy stories, and being from the angle of a female spy in the CIA, seemed interesting, and now I am hooked. This is a great read for anyone who likes the genre. What I like most is the light-heartedness of these novels. The situations are real and dramatic, but there is always a little whimsy and comic relief. A very refreshing perspective vs. the dark and gritty.
"This series is a hoot"
I was laughing throughout the book. I listened to the whole Mudbug series but this is better and different. The Sinful ladies crack me out and they make Fortune their foil. On to the next book I the series. 🎎😹😆
"Stealing the Show"
While this series is about CIA agent Fortune hiding out in a small bayou town, senior citizens Ida Belle and Gertie steal the show. Lots of laughs along with a mystery!
"Good cozy with great humor"
I came across the Miss Fortune series and decided to take a chance with book one. The minute I finished that one, I purchased book two. There is something so engaging and laugh out loud funny about a young female CIA assassin hiding out in a small Louisiana town and falling in with the local senior ladies. Ms. Campbell does a great job with the narration and just adds to the pleasure. It's witty, it's touching, the mystery is entertaining and you will love the characters.
"Laugh out loud comedy!"
Great mystery that had me laughing out loud several times! Not sure which character I like the most, they are all so funny!
I love this series! Completely unique characters and story line. Funny, entertaining, and leaves you immediately ordering the next in the s
eries. Best narration I've heard.
"Oh my goodness"
OMG this one was so so funny. It had me laughing out loud right by my self. I can't wait until the next one. And as for Cassandra Campbell she is the best one of my Favorite
"The same as before - Enjoyable"
This one too is hilarious. Fortune is evil ass and being run crazy by the Geritol Mafia. Her adventures are hampered by refraining from using deadly force and keeping low key. In this book it proves a little more difficult because the high school bitch is back and everyone has a reason to kill her.
So you would assume everyone is a suspect because of course the bitch has offended everyone. Yet, why is Fortune the suspect? Well it is her story of course. She is not 007 nor is she Stephanie Plum. She is a delightful mix exactly in the middle.
This is a small town which never had a murder until Fortune can to stay. Jana DeLeon does an excellent job giving us an interesting story while not bogging us down with the detail in a Lucas Davenport, the main character in a John Standford book, novel ‘
A good read with just enough body to keep you interested.
This is a great book in a great series. It truly is laugh aloud funny. The characters are so real and some are so outrageous. The heroine, Fortune, is very likable. Her side kicks, Ida Bell, Gertie, Millie and Ally are super likable too. The dialogs among them and the sexy deputy sherif are snappy and sometimes just too funny! The story in this book, as in the previous books, is interesting from start to finish. So far I have listened to these books in one sitting (I am retired). The mysteries are difficult to solve - but they do get solved. The reader is great. I highly recommend this book but also recommend that you start this series in order so that the characters and the story can build. I have already downloaded the next book in the series.
I laughed so hard I cried! So funny! Love the characters and mystery :) i have to read the next!
"Good book, I have been listening to them back to back"
Good book, I have been listening back to back with the other ones in the series, they makes me laugh and actually has some decent plot and twists which I am enjoying
"Don't turn your back"
This book was so funny at times it had me laughing out loud . Four absolutely brilliant lady characters spread mayhem and discover murder in their midst. Overall a good interesting story with a surprise ending. Good back up characters also make up the quality of the book.
