Number-one best-selling author Patricia Cornwell delivers the next enthralling thriller in her high-stakes series starring Kay Scarpetta - a complex tale involving a serial sniper who strikes chillingly close to the forensic sleuth herself.
It's Chief Medical Examiner Dr Kay Scarpetta's birthday, and while she's enjoying a leisurely morning, a man is shot dead five minutes from her house. The bullet tore through him as he unloaded groceries from his car. Yet nobody heard or saw a thing.
It looks like the work of a serial sniper - one who leaves no trace except for tiny copper fragments, and whose seemingly impossible shots cause instant death. As Scarpetta investigates, uncovering details that only she can analyze, she begins to suspect that the killer is sending her a message.
Adding to Scarpetta's growing unease is the sense that those closest to her are keeping secrets. And when her pursuit of the sniper takes Scarpetta to a shipwreck off the Florida coast, she comes face to face with shocking evidence that implicates her niece Lucy - Scarpetta's very own flesh and blood…

"Hit and then it hit the floor"
I am a Scarpetta fan and found this audio book a good listen. Great narration, with authentic accents and distinguishable character voices, which are always a pleasure. I found the storyline very credible and interesting.
The only flaw for me was a eager sudden and flat ending. I realize the intended purpose of it, bout found it to be a rather bland ending to an otherwise rise momentum-building story.
"Getting too smug"
Shame, but our heroine is getting far too self satisfied and her views on Benton and Lucy now read like the most boastful type of family reports tucked into Christmas cards.
"Don't waste your time/money."
A decent story would have made it better, this is turgid. I've listened to 19 chapters, a man has been shot that's it! Glaciers move faster than the pace of this novel, feels like Cornwell is going through the motions, contractually obliged to produce x amount of words.I've read/ listened to most of the Scarpetta novels and this tripe doesn't come close to the standard of the others.
Possibly, but I'd listen/read an excerpt first.
Her performance as always was impeccable, shame she had such dross to perform.
Total disappointment. Glad it was a "deal of the day" I'd have felt robbed had I paid full price for it.
Avoid, listen to white noise rather than assault your senses with this.
im a massive fan of this lady all her books in kays series another real good book gripinging range of emostions
if it wasnt on aurble it be a book you couldnt put down
"Story slowed down by forensic detail"
This was my first Patricia Cornell - and will be my last. The story started interestingly but kept getting slowed down by an incredible amount of technical detail on forensics and guns
Stuck with it to see " who done it" - totally disgusted a different character came in 1 hour before end with no hint and clearly a character from another book
"poor ending and too much technical details"
poor ending and too much technical details for a story with lots of potential feels like the author decided to cut the story early for a part two.
I used to love the Kay Scarpetta books, but was very disappointed with this story. I kept waiting for the story to get going and then it just ended. Won't be listening to another.
"As usual a thought provoking yarn"
I enjoy the portrayal of the characters and how the story unfolds
kay is a well written character with strengths and weaknesses
I have listened to quite a few now and this one is as interesting as the others
lack lustre storyline.. poor ending. struggled to end - almost gave up. Good for insomnia though...
This is the first Patricia Cornwall book I have listened to, having read a few. I found the narration a bit stilted at first but it seemed to improve as the book progressed. The storyline was ok but I was disappointed with the ending. Not my favourite Kay Scarpetta book!!
"Another great story."
Loved this book! Really enjoyed the story and the conclusion was very satisfying. Another winner.
