Publisher's Summary

Take one quiet Yorkshire Village, add a measure of mystery, a sprinkling of scandal and Kate Shackleton - amateur sleuth extraordinaire!

Bridgestead is a quiet village: a babbling brook, rolling hills and a working mill at its heart. Pretty and remote, nothing exceptional happens...except for the day when Joshua Braithwaite goes missing in dramatic circumstances, never to be heard of again.

Now Joshua's daughter is getting married and wants one last attempt at finding her father. Has he run off with his mistress, or was he murdered for his mounting coffers? Kate Shackleton has always loved solving puzzles. So who better to get to the bottom of Joshua's mysterious disappearance? But as Kate taps in to the lives of the Bridgestead dwellers, she opens cracks that some would kill to keep closed....

Very glad I found the Kate Shackleton books

I came across this book in one of the audible sales and I'm very happy to have found it. The characters are interesting and the plot line was strong - definitely recommend.

Could be the beginning of a great series

A rather fast passed story read in a Yorkshire accent. Lots of suspects with a winding and meandering tale. Quiet enjoyable. There are about. 10 more books in the series. This being the first. I hope the stories are ongoing and just as good if not better.

Not Quite Maisie Dobbs

I love the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear and this series seemed like it would help fill the breach until the new Maisie Dobbs book is released. Whilst, in my opinion, not in the same league I did thoroughly enjoy this book and will be back for the next installment, where I am sure all the main characters will be more developed.
