Publisher's Summary

Agatha Christie’s most exotic murder mystery, read by Hercule Poirot himself, David Suchet.

The tranquillity of a cruise along the Nile was shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway had been shot through the head. She was young, stylish and beautiful. A girl who had everything… until she lost her life.

Hercule Poirot recalled an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger: ‘I’d like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger.’ Yet in this exotic setting nothing was ever quite what it seemed…

Narrator surprisingly not as good as usual

I've read more than a few audiobooks narrated by David Suchet. The direction and audio engineering of this audiobook was far lower than the usual standard.

The choice of voice for Colonel Race was appalling; giving him a lisp and a dumb nasal tone was insulting and showed no understanding of his backstory or character by the director. The voices given to the Egyptian natives were unnecessarily jarring and annoyingly piercing to the ear in such a usually low-volume audiobook.

I usually speed up audiobooks but I considered slowing this one down, some parts were so fast, sounding like it had been sped up rather than Suchet was reading quickly. The volume was low and inconsistent (no compression?) in many sections, I had to turn the volume up many times. I had to relisten to many sections to understand mumbling, softly spoken or muddy-sounding passages (and according to my last hearing test I've better than average hearing).

Great story of course, it's a classic. David Suchet is very talented. I'm so disappointed in the narration and sound quality choices though.

death on the nile

excellent book and reading. only slight issue was with characterisation of colonel races voice, was not quite suited to Christie's portrayal.

Loved it!

David Suchet’s reading of this classic is as good as it gets. His ability to transition between characters is incredible. And as a fan of his Poirot, it was a joy to hear the little Belgian detective’s voice again.

Not her best but always fun

This is not my favourite Poirot novel, it's a little too predictable for my liking but like with all of Christie's novels it comes alive anyway. Suchet is a lively strange receive whose characters are wonderfully distinct

I adore David Suchet

and LOVED hearing his Poirot and his narration, but I found some of the voices - particularly Colonel Race and Mrs Van Schuyler - to be really jarring, irritating and inconsistent.

No more voice characterisations, please,

Even you, David Suchet's, do not have 'the gift'. You attempt to voice all the characters in the story and you ruin the story, as originally intended by the author. Believe me, it can't be done out of one throat.
