Beneath the water the body sank rapidly. She would lie still and undisturbed for many years, but above her on dry land, the nightmare was just beginning.
When Detective Erika Foster receives a tip-off that key evidence for a major narcotics case was stashed in a disused quarry on the outskirts of London, she orders for it to be searched. From the thick sludge the drugs are recovered, but so is the skeleton of a young child. The remains are quickly identified as seven-year-old Jessica Collins. The missing girl who made headline news 26 years ago.
As Erika tries to piece together new evidence with the old, she must dig deeper and find out more about the fractured Collins family and the original detective, Amanda Baker - a woman plagued by her failure to find Jessica. Erika soon realizes this is going to be one of the most complex and demanding cases she has ever taken on.
Is the suspect someone close to home? Someone is keeping secrets. Someone who doesn't want this case solved. And they'll do anything to stop Erika from finding the truth.

"i really love this series!! i have listened to all three books. i hope there is another one soon."
i really love this series!! i have listened to all three books. i hope there is another one soon.
"Another great story"
Love the narration by Jana Cramer. hope there is more stories to come with DCI Foster. another great read with an unexpected twist at the end.
"3rd in series"
I really like this author but sometime the dialog is a bit choppy. Enjoyed the plot and characters except for the sister. I would listen to another story in the future but not as enthusiastic as I was in the beginning.
"Captivating, plenty of red herrings"
The author has done it again with his third DCI Erika Foster book. I can't get enough. Highly recommendable. Jan Cramer's narration is excellent.
"Excellent Storyline That Kept Me Guessing Until the Very End"
I love all Robert Bryndza's Erika Foster books. He does an excellent job weaving a tale that captivates me until I finish the entire novel—usually in one sitting. This novel is no different. I highly recommend this book and all the books in this series. I also look forward to more novels in this series. I would love to see Erika get the praise and love she so desperately needs and deserves. (I would also like to see a couple of her nemeses get what they deserve as well....lol)
"good I just enjoyed the first 2 more..."
Maybe it was my mood - who knows? well- written, solid mystery, unsure why I didn't find it as thrilling as author's previous fare, give it a listen and post your thoughts. Will be interested if fans agree, I am definitely watching for the next in the series!
"Strong Entry in a Consistent Series"
This book started off a little jarring. It took a little while to realize some time had passed from the previous book and Erika was no longer at the same division with the same partners. Luckily many of the secondary characters from the first two books were eventually brought back in to participate in this book as well. That is good news because I think one of the strengths of the series is the multitude of flawed and/or interesting secondary characters. Several new characters were also introduced that I hope play a recurring role. I would like to know more about her sister and the new female chief.
The mystery was engaging as well. I admit I had only figured out who two/thirds of the bad guys were, so a good portion of the ending was surprising to me.
The narrator is not bad. She just adds nothing to the experience. Which is in some ways a good thing because she isn't overly theatrical. At the same time, I would never decide to listen to an audiobook just because she was the narrator, and there are some narrators that I will read anything they narrate.
Overall a good edition to the series and I will read the next installment.
"Excellent narrator, and the ending is WOW!"
There are interesting twists and turns to this book. As far as the criminal case is concerned, it wasn't as good as the first two.
I love Erika Foster and I'm happy to see her work with her team. I like the additional characters (her family) and how exciting to see a love story developing. I look forward to the next book! Is there going to be a kidnapping? Is she thinking of a relationship?
The accents she could make! Not the most accurate but it's adorable to hear her try.
Always exciting, very well written, very well read. Can't wait for more! Job well done.
"Snap, Crackle, Pop"
Never a dull moment in an Erika Foster book. Quickly becoming one of my favorite series.
"Painful to listen to"
the narrator spoilt this story she was reading it in a light-hearted jolly. condescending tone that was so not appropriate for this dark tale. couldn't even finish the book it was so annoying
Another great Erika Foster story, couldn't stop listening and a good twist at the end!
I enjoy the narrator, she brings the book to life, just like she has with the previous 2 books by Robert - made me smile a good few times.
non, Robert is a unique author and very much enjoy his books
I very much enjoy the scenes with Erica & Patterson, their chemistry together is great.
Erica has a great sense of humour and it comes out well through the narration
Even though i enjoyed this book it wasnt quite as page turny as the previous 2 in this serious, still a fantastic read but The girl in the Ice is a hard one to beat!
Well done Robert, i look forward to reading the next installment.
"Another brilliant novel!"
Loved it, fast paced, lots of twists and turns and a knife edge ending!! Can't wait for the next one!
