Returning home from a trip to Paris, Boston medical examiner Maura Isles confronts a nightmarish scene. Police cruisers line her street and slumped in a car at the end of Maura's driveway is a dead woman, her head bloodied by a gunshot wound. Cops and neighbors gape at her as she approaches. Only when Maura looks at the victim does she understand why everyone is so shocked by her arrival. The dead woman looks exactly like Maura. Within a week, the DNA lab delivers a stunning verdict: the dead woman is Maura's twin. A twin she never knew she had. Detective Jane Rizzoli, now eight months pregnant, tackles the case as chief investigator. But for Maura, this murder is far more personal and frightening.

"Pacy but a bit over the top"
I’ve read/listened to quite a few of the author’s books featuring pathologist Maura Isles and detective Jane Rizzoli. They’re all pacy stories that keep one interested and are worth listening to, though I wish that detective fiction writers wouldn’t have the main characters being attacked in so many of their books, including this one. if one likes this genre you accept the crimes are contrived and often preposterous but I felt this book was a bit over the top particularly the ending.
The book doesn’t dwell too much on the grisly details of the crimes unlike some authors who verge on the voyeuristic, but she does describe post mortems which some may find distasteful.
I chose this book partly because it is narrated with panache by Lorelei King: one of the best in the business.
Absolutely, the storyline is gripping.
I especially liked the cooperation between the police and the forensics team within the storyline.
Yes, quite a few and Lorelei is a delight in each and every one.
I cannot wait for the next book.
"Brilliant story of suspense"
This book has some great twists and turns and has a really solid story from beginning to end. The narration as always by the wonderful Lorelei King was spot on
Few dodgy accents, twists & turns at every corner, but overall very good. Will try more by author hope as good
"Hooked on Gerritson"
I love the reader which attracted me to it. Great plot great pace and great visual characterisation
Will have more of this
Very good story and narration. Marked down a bit, not for the content, but because probably more suited to women, so not a negative criticism
"Early Rizzolli/Isles novel, well narrated"
This, the third outing for Boston Pathologist Dr Maura Isles who is a key character in most of Gerritsen’s Detective Rizzoli crime novels. The earliest books are not available from audible at the time of review, but several more recent ones are, some also narrated by the excellent Lorelei King. I have only listened to (not sight read) this series of books, so when Body Double became available on audible it was a useful way for me to hear what had previously been a back-story for these characters. It’s a good page-turner, well read and would be a good intro for anyone just starting to listen to the series..
