The first in her Detective Emmanuel Cooper series, A Beautiful Place to Die marks the debut of a talented writer who reads Graham Greene. It is a tale of murder, passion, corruption, and the corrosive double standard that defined an apartheid nation.

."Smooth prose and a deft plot make this novel a welcome addition to crime fiction set in South Africa." (Australian Publishers Weekly)
Loved it.. narrator did a great job with the accents.. true to form Humphrey. The author picked up the true way the climate of South Africa was in the 1950's. Highly recommended this book.
Enjoyed this story very much and I always like Humphrey Bowers narration. I highly recommend it, never a dull moment
A great story. I got to know the characters. Was easy to listen to without being too simple. I did not guess the ending, which is always a mark of a good crime thriller for me. Narrator was very good too, with different acents. I will be looking out for this new authors next book!
This is an outstanding book. A good plot, vivid characters operating in a well described landscape, excellently narrated by Humphrey Bower make this one of the most enjoyable audiobooks I have listened to this year
"Stunning first book"
If Malla Nunn can produce more books of this standard, I will be one of he most avid fans.
Humphrey Bower does a great job reading this story set in small-town rural South Africa. I felt I could understand some of the problems people on all sides of the racial divide must have encountered during apartheid. Many of the characters in the story have been damaged by events in their recent past; the election of the National Party Government and their draconian racial segregation laws threaten more damage and division.
I want to hear more of D.S. Cooper but it's just a shame that Constable Shabalala (?) won't be included.
