Publisher's Summary
Four classic episodes from the original TV series: Arrival, Songs of Praise, Easter Special and The Christmas Lunch Incident. Welcome to Dibley, a perfect village full of some perfectly peculiar people - including Alice Tinker and her underactive brain, Owen Newitt and his overactive bowels, and Letitia Cropley and her orange cake with Branston pickle icing.
Council ruler David Horton has everything running exactly as he wishes - until 102-year-old Reverend Pottle dies. That's when the trouble begins, for the new vicar of Dibley is Geraldine, a babe with a bob and a magnificent bosom. In these instalments, the vicar increases the church-going public, finds something remarkably attractive about television, learns about suffering by giving up chocolate for Lent, and promises herself too many Christmas lunches with too many people.
Starring Dawn French, with Gary Waldhorn, James Fleet, Roger Lloyd Pack, Emma Chambers and Trevor Peacock.

Look, it's the Vicker of Dibbly so it is full of wonderful gentle humour. Unfortunately, this audiobook is simply the sound track from the show. No modifications were made to the script to accommodate the visual gags. :(

Great for fans of the TV show
As someone who has watched every episode of Vicar of Dibley more times than I can count, and is able to visualise what is happening in every scene, this audio version of some episodes from Series 1 is quite nice to listen to. I’ve found it good for putting on in the background whilst cleaning, settling in for sleep, or various activities where I benefit from familiar background noise (without feeling I need to keep an eye on a TV screen).
I am not sure that people who are not so familiar with the show would really get as much from it, but maybe it would still be entertaining without the visuals (though some of the laughter may be confusing if you don’t know or recall what would be happening on screen).
I definitely enjoyed however, and was glad to be able to pick up at a discount. (Also, some scenes from the show have been cut or edited out of the audio, presumably because they’d be too confusing or unnecessary in audio.)

Four comedy classics!
Although these audios are just abridged version of the original TV show and some of the visual gags are lost on the listener, the strength of these four episodes shines through. Arrival, Songs of Praise, The Easter Bunny, and The Christmas Lunch Incident are all comedy classics that stand the test of time. Despite only crediting Dawn French, the full cast appear.
