Did you know that God forbids the tying of shoelaces on Saturdays? Or that humans emit a colorful aura that can be discerned only with a Third Eye? That bountiful harvest requires the flinging of a live goat from a church bell tower? That instead of wishing upon a star, we can wish upon a...cow? Well into the 21st century, our species continues to participate in beliefs and customs that seem more suited to the Bronze Age than the Information Age, some of which involve poisonous snakes, holy smoke, urine bubbles, crystals, tarot cards, aliens, costumed virgins, and, of course, an offering plate. Join Seth Andrews for a random romp across the planet and a humorous look at some of humanity's Sacred Cows.

Maybe it was just me , I found this book a bit too "lightweight " for my taste. This is not to say it's not a good book, it just didn't appeal to me.
I love Seth's unique ability to narrate information by bringing it to life through personal anecdotes, humor and observations about the madness of humanity. I found this to be a lovely and often hilarious book. I enjoyed the broad spectrum of cultural and religious practices from across the globe. Thanks for the ear candy
"Seth is changing the world!"
Seth is one of those people who just has a way with words. Sacred Cows is one of those books that makes you think about the superstitions you have in your life and brings to light the ridiculous in the world. It's funny, well written, and hugely entertaining. A great read and an even better listen. I can't wait until your next book Seth.
"Light-hearted, easy listening"
A great introduction for anyone new to atheism. I'm normally one to listen to the heavier audio books on atheism and epistemology but Seth (makes it clear that this IS NOT one of those books) is great if you don't want anything too hard to follow. Delivered perfectly as always, his deep soothing tones and lighter subject matter were a joy to listen to. This is a skim over some of both popular and obscure religion's bat s### crazy ideas and beliefs.
Seth Andrews does a wonderful job capturing the humor in belief around the world. Filled with laugh out loud humor. His storytelling style is captivating and his deep baritone voice is a joy to listen to.
I was sucked into this book from the moment I hit play. I love the way Seth tells a story!
"Brilliance! Wrapped up in Seths' ear-candy voice"
A must have, for anyone who likes a giggle and stories of odd traditions..
I absolutely love it.. Some traditions I had heard of, and could share a headshake and eye-roll with Seth.. Other traditions and beliefs took me aback or had me laughing out loud.
All presented and explained perfectly by the author.
Please check it out, you will not regret it :)
"Sacred Cows by Seth Andrews"
Funny, engaging, and an absolute blast. Seth is one of the best storytellers out there today.
"Fun and informative"
Of course Seth Andrews' tremendous voice helps when listening to this book, but it wouldn't have been such a treat if the content hadn't been both funny and informative at the same time. In short: good job on the content and very well performed.
The chapter on the pope was a blast.
It certainly made me smile and i even laughed out loud from time to time. But with all stories I made sure that I had my hand near my face making the face-palming easier....And I was amazed about some of the stories in the book. For a non-US person (the Netherlands) it was nice to have stories from all over the world.
Some of the stories I already knew from the podcast Thinking Atheist, but some were new to me. Those I enjoyed a lot!
Great easy listen. Seth does a great job both writing and recording the book. Funny yet to the factual point.
"Voice of a god"
because its Seth. Come on.
the incredible words.
Easily in the top two books he's written.
It gave me gas. Or... That could have been my dinner. Either way, I smiled a lot. The
Therhhinkingatheist. Com. Amazing poscast. It lacks monkey men and glory holes.... But worth every second.
"Seth Andrews is the man"
great book...everything he does is great... love his attitude...when I was scared during the process of stripping myself of god and becoming an atheist he made me feel good about it..
"Entertaining and informative"
Also picked up the paper back and looking forward to reading that too!
Entertaining and irreberant galop through religion and it's many incarnations around the world.
