Welcome back Giles Wemmbley Hogg two M's, two G’s - Marcus Brigstocke’s classic character. Budleigh Salterton's most famous citizen has been grounded by both the Home Office and his father, so he's set up GWH Travvel ("two M’s, two G’s, two V’s - bit of a mix up at the printers").
Run from his bedroom in Budleigh Salterton, with the help of his long-suffering former Primary Schoolteacher Mr Timmis and the hindrance of his sister, Charlotte, it's a one-stop travel/advice/events management/Web-site service, where each week, his schemes range far and wide - whether it's roaming the country lecturing would-be overlanders on how to pack a rucksack ("If in doubt, put it in. And double it"), or finding someone a zebra for a corporate promotion ("I'll look in the phone book - how hard can it be? Now, 'A to D'".....), GWH Travvel stays true to its motto - "We do it all, so you won't want to". In short - Giles Wemmbley Hogg - each week he travels to far-off foreign lands and joins the exotic world of work. And each week, he makes a thumping great prat of himself....
This is the complete Series five, featuring Rebecca Front, Mitch Benn (The Now Show), David Armand (Sorry, I've Got No Head), Laura Solon & Ben Willbond (Horrible Histories).
In the first episode - featuring Rebecca Front - when an American mogul tries to buy up every last pebble in lovely Budleigh, Giles decides to run for mayor. Meanwhile his sister, Charlotte, goes on a tent protest....
In episode two - Giles has become mayor of Budleigh Salterton, but when he accidentally enters an Iron Man triathlon in Spain, he has to enlist the help of a tub of mysterious white powder and a donkey.... Plus this show features Mitch Benn (The Now Show) and his amazing Spanish accent!
In episode three, co-starring Laura Solon & Ben Willbond, Giles tries to put Budleigh Salterton on the gastronomic map, and inadvertently serves up a full-scale biohazard lockdown instead. Yumsk!
In the fourth and final episode, Giles travels to Turkmenistan, where he meets some leftover post-Soviet rocket fuel. What could possibly go wrong? And how will he react to the world’s first weightless pastie?

"It's Giles, but not as we know it..."
I love GWH.
They're always stored in my iPod as their familiarity doesn't irritate and they can be pulled on like a pair of socks to give humorous comfort. I wouldn't like to guess how many times I've listened to them but I've certainly had excellent value for money & I was really looking forward to series 5 as I missed them all during their original radio run.
I've got to be honest, series 5 is poor.
The performances are as strong as ever but the stories are just not quite up to par. For those of us who have been with Giles for a while, the absence of Arabella is a disappointment and the inclusion of Mr Timmis and Charlotte with GWH Travel is also puzzling. We're still in familiar territory with Charterhouse, Budleigh Salterton and Slow Giles but some of the newer facets to Gile's character seem to have been overlooked.
I know I shouldn't mind such things and just enjoy the great writing that is in series 5 but I feel a little bit glum that the continuity is a little awry. Each episode of GWH does stand alone but there is
If I didn't like GWH so much I would be happy to let series 5 be a poor end to a very good series but I really hope the team will produce a brilliant series 6.
Vincent Franklin has been brought in to replace Adrian Scarborough as Mr Timmis but the rest of the key players remain. Some of the guest actors are also returnees from previous shows.
Toby Davies joins the writing team but I do think that the piece misses Graeme Garden who contributed on series 1 - 3.
GWH is a fabulous comedy creation. Please don't let series 5 be the bad end to a great show.
One for the completests out there but if you want to try GWH, and I really do advise that you do, start with series 1 and listen to them in order.
