Publisher's Summary

Jay Gatsby is the man who has everything. But one thing will always be out of his reach. Everybody who is anybody is seen at his glittering parties. Day and night his Long Island mansion buzzes with bright young things drinking, dancing, and debating his mysterious character. For Gatsby---young, handsome, and fabulously rich---always seems alone in the crowd, watching and waiting, though no one knows what for. Beneath the shimmering surface of his life he is hiding a secret: a silent longing that can never be fulfilled. And soon this destructive obsession will force his world to unravel. This unabridged audiobook is a recording of the original 1924 Book Club edition.

    "Brilliant book and perfect narrator"

The Great Gatsby is one of my favourite books and this audio version is brilliant. The narrator has a warm, charasmatic voice and brings to life the characters. Highly recommended!

    "The Boring Gatsby"

So many people told me this book was a classic that I felt compelled to listen to it and I'm sorry I did. What a borefest? The toughest part I had in listening to this, was trying not to fall asleep....

    "Classic"

A must read book, despite the vast differences in the situation, still the description of the personalities and the way the heroes are introduced to the reader are excellent. I watched the movie afterwards and as usual was not as good as the book.

    "Beautiful but sad"

A moody, atmospheric and ultimately tragic classic. This book exudes a hazy, champagne-drenched decadence of years gone by which remain as memories of sunshine, excess, infidelity and obsession long after you have read it. Although it received only muted attention upon publication, the quality of writing and it's ability to evoke the era of roaring 20's America, has assured it a place in literary history. A great listen.

    "fantastic!"

Robertson Dean does justice to Fitzgerald's classic with his easy going tone that sets the 1920s American mood so well.
