    "One of my favorites"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. Many people love Pride and Prejudice and Emma, but Persuasion seems to be overlooked. I have always loved this one the most. A little slice of perfection!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anne is a wonderful character; she is reserved and quiet, but determined not to be pressured into a convenient marriage. She sees people for who they really are.

"Never tire of this story!! 5 enthusiastic stars!!"

Jane Austen is long my favorite author ..... Persuasion is by far my 2nd favorite preceded by Pride and Prejudice which will remain forever my first Jane Austen and favorite! Mary Sarah's performance received some criticism which in my humble opinion was unfounded. This performance and work was well worth the sale price of under $1!!!

    "Great story, wrong reader"

Great story. The reader did a nice job with Anne of Green Gables, but not a fit for this. Her emotional range is "from A to B." Really frustrating.

"Intuitive and Enchanting Second Chance Rom Classic"
What did you love best about Persuasion?

This was not my first or even second go around with the story, but since my teen years it has been an all-time favorite. This may seem odd, but what I enjoyed and still enjoy best is the thought that people can get a restart or that it was a case of bad timing and the second time around will be better. That people can make mistakes and not have to regret them forever. All these things go with scintillating storytelling. Austen's characters sparkle. There is wit, humor, glances at folly, warmth, and yes, romance.

What did you like best about this story?

This time around I enjoyed how at first Anne seems to look bad beside Louisa Musgrove because Louisa has force of character and quick decisiveness which Wentworth applauds, but then a few scenes later the author slyly alters matters so that the reader and Wentworth are forced to see that there are strengths to a biddable thoughtful nature, too, after the Lyme incident where Anne shines and Louisa is hurt by her impetuous head-strong nature.

What about Mary Sarah’s performance did you like?

Pretty much everything! I love how she voiced the characters and how she got into the emotion of the story. I liked how she made Anne's pensiveness which can be a slow part not so lacking for me. I felt she added and didn't distract.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! Always! And actually, I almost did. But admittedly, it's a favorite.

    "Delightful story, average performance."

Listening to this a second time I'm once again perplexed by the utterly strange pronouncement of certain words. One (I forget which) was pronounced so strangely it took me a few seconds thought before I could figure out exactly what she meant. And then there's the grating "oblahzshe". What. In. The. Heck. Oblige, woman!!! There's an I and a G in it!!! There were also odd pauses in the reading from time to time. Nothing terrible, but enough to clearly make this not a first-rate production.

Nevertheless, it was inexpensive to purchase and was enjoyable to listen to, so no real complaints. A thoroughly delightful story, one of my favourites.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

    No. The book is wonderful.

Would you be willing to try another one of Mary Sarah’s performances?

Yes. Mary Sarah is a good narrator. Her Anne of Green Gables is wonderful! She, unfortunately does not pull off a natural sounding British accent for this book.

    Any additional comments?

I was unable to finish the book because of the Mary Sarah's poor accent choice.

I've never heard "oblige" pronounced this way and never realized how often Ms. Austen used the word! It almost became comical.

    "enjoyable"

I wish the narrator would pronounce some of the words correctly, that bugged me a bit. overall it was just fine.
at the beginning of the book I didn't really like, or feel attached to the characters, most of them are not very likeable. but true to form this book ended happy for the people that deserved to be happy. not an altogether different theme from austen. I enjoyed it and I enjoy these classical works. it's worth a read, or a listen I should say.

This is one of my favorite books of all time. the narration is not amazing but for the price, I was pleasantly surprised. if you have never read it I would recommend reading it yourself or purchasing a better narration but if you already love the book this one is just fine.

"My favourite Jane Austen-but very poorly read"
Would you try another book written by Jane Austen or narrated by Mary Sarah?

I would never choose a book read by Mary Sarah. There are so many wonderful readers I can't understand how anyone could allow her to read a classic, did no one listen to it before it was sold?

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anne, of course, is the heroine and you feel her pains and pleasures but all Jane Austen's characters are skillfully drawn.

What didn’t you like about Mary Sarah’s performance?

She is a poor reader and pronounced names incorrectly.

Was Persuasion worth the listening time?

    Not with this reader.

"Why not use an English voice artist?"

...and if you insist on a North American voice, they should be able to pronounce words like "obliged" properly! I can assure you that it is not "uh-blarged".

The first warning sign was that "shewn" was pronounced "shoon", when any Janeite could tell you that's an old-fashioned spelling of "shown". It also took me a while to realise that the voice artist was attempting to do general English and Somerset accents at some points. If you can't do impressions, it's safest to stick to your own accent.

I'm available to read any American classics you might have in my really poor attempt at an LA accent, if you want me to return the favour.

What made the experience of listening to Persuasion the most enjoyable?

This is probably my favourite Jane Austen book. Hearing it spoken aloud made me appreciate it even more, and though I couldn't really say that Mary Sarah's reading particularly enhanced the experience, neither did it detract. For the price, I would say this version is stunningly good value.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Persuasion?

    The whole book is memorable!

One of my favourite Jane Austen stories but I just can't get on with this narration. The emphasis and intonation isn't quite right somehow - the voice sounds almost computerised so I stopped listening quickly before the whole book is spoiled for me.
