Jahrhundert aus Mecklenburg nach Amerika ausgewanderten Tagelöhnersohnes an seinen ehemaligen Dorfschullehrer. Die Briefe sind überwiegend heiter-komischer Natur, zum Teil aber auch sehr nachdenklich und anrührend. Wenn es eine mecklenburgische Nationalliteratur gäbe: dieses Buch würde dazu gehören. Der Text ist mit norddeutscher Dialektfärbung gesprochen; das Buch enthält auch plattdeutsche Einsprengsel.
