With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century. In this story of "kindred spirits", McAdams' touching and heartfelt narration proves she is just that - bonded on a deep level to this shimmering classic.
When aging brother and sister Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan boy to help with chores around their farm, Green Gables on Prince Edward Island, neither is prepared for the feisty and imaginative redheaded girl who is mistakenly brought to them instead. Nor are they prepared for the way in which she will change their lives. Through a series of hilarious misadventures, Anne's uncompromising spirit makes her a striking presence in the close-knit village, bringing new friendships, first crushes, and, for her foster parents, a love and openness unimaginable before her arrival.

This is the most perfectly read version of Anne of Green Gables I could ever imagine. Rachel McAdams has the most perfect voice for Anne: light and humorous, with the necessary depth and sensitivity.
I laughed, and cried throughout the whole thing, despite knowing the story so very well.
If the powers that be ever read this: PLEASE have Ms McAdams read the rest of the series!
This is my first audible story I have ever listened too and it was amazing Rachel mcadams was brilliant in her narration. I would highly recommend
when i was little i used to watch the 1985 mini series of this with my mum over and over. this is the first time ive read/listen to the book and it brought back so many lovely memories! couldn't stop listening to it!
So sad to finish this book! I loved reading this book when I was a child, I loved the mini-series and I LOVE this audiobook recording. Rachel McAdams was the perfect narrator for Anne of Green Gables and I sincerely hope that she is already recording the follow up books in the series....
I started by putting this book on for my kids to listen to but was quickly drawn in to Anne's world and so kept listening without my kids!!
"Salvation for the soul in these terrible times"
When the country seems so dark and sad, it is a welcome relief to turn to this delightful book, which reminds one that no matter how terrible the times, there is always something to gladden the soul. Great narration.
"Match made in Heaven"
If you like this classic you will love this rendition. McAdams does an outstanding job. Hopefully she will narrate more books in the future.
"Rachel McAdams Exceeds Expectations"
From even the sample you can gauge that McAdams' voice is smooth and clear, and perfectly suited to this book. She glides through the narration, and tilts her voice excitedly for Anne and sternly somber for Marilla Cuthbert. Her voice is crisp and bright in the earphones, or makes for lovely musicality to lull you to sleep at night.
The story itself, if you aren't already connected to it from childhood, is a bit dull. By modern standards anyway. A young orphan girl is mistakenly sent to live with a couple, a brother and sister in their late fifties. They decide to keep her and then, ya know, life keeps happening from there.
It is refreshingly charming, a classic family delight. Just, don't expect a dramatic climax or a thrilling ride throughout the novel. Accept the enchantment of it for what it is.
"Amazing. Listen to this book."
I am sitting on a bench outside my son's school, having just finished listening to Anne of Green Gables, and I am actually crying. The story was lovely, made even lovelier by Rachel McAdams' narration. If she doesn't do the next book in the series, I don't know what I will do with my life.
"Rachel McAdams great!"
I think hearing one of my favourite actresses narrate one of my favourite books! Rachel's voice was soft, smooth, and her love of this book is evident as she reads.
Anne dying her hair green, getting called Carrots.. the heartbreaking death of Matthew
I love the intonation and inflections in Rachel's voice. You can tell that the story means a lot to her and now it does to me as well. Thank you, Audible!
"Put a smile on my face!"
Absolutely loved this book. The narration was perfect and the story was sweet and memorable.
"love love love"
What a great read...the story and put performance were fantastic! I can't wait for the next in the series.
Wonderful story and loved Rachel McAdams narration. I could start all over and listen again.
loved it! voice of Rachel McAdams was very well spoken. of course the story is such a great story.
"Beautifully narrated and such a wonderful story"
I loved the way the narrator captured the very essence of the story
I alternated between Anne with her exuberance and Merilla's stoical common sense approach to bringing up little girls
I think Matthew and Anne's relationship moved me the most.
Beautifully narrated throughout.
"An old favourite beautifully read"
I was a little apprehensive to listen to Anne of Green Gables as an audiobook because it is one of my favourite childhood books. Anne is like an old friend to me I was afraid the story would be ruined by a bad narrator. There are many versions of this book available, read by many different narrators but this is the version to choose. Rachel McAdams reads this story wonderfully! I feel as though she enjoys telling the story and reads naturally & comfortably, with expression but not over- dramatically. And her voice is just lovely to listen to. I would love it if she were to return & read the rest of the series! Please?!
A wonderful production of one of my favourite books, I would love for Rachel McAdams to narrate the rest of the series!
Narrator was wonderful. Kept the attention of my 7 year old daughter who loved hearing Anne get in and out of trouble.
This beautiful story from a forgotten time helps restore ones connection to the beauty in this world through the eyes of Anne. A lovely narration which captures the essence of the book with ease.
Well worth a trip down memory lane.
"Loved it but..."
Why did it have to stop there? It seemed as though the story had a lot more to it. Would have liked a few more years at least.
