"Reciting the litany of Scrooge's scrooginess, Stewart relishes the emotional gamut of meanness....Humbug seldom sounds so good." (Newsweek)
"Not only is Patrick Stewart wonderful, but this is surely one of the best performances of A Christmas Carol ever recorded....By sheer energy and dramatic skill, Stewart invests this story with not merely life, but freshness, excitement, and wonder." (The Washington Post)
"A low tech audio Christmas card: no sound effects, no gimmicks, just one of the the great voices of the contemporary classical stage creating as vivid a cast of characters as Dickens imagines. The Royal Shakespeare Company veteran...doesn't so much read the story as inhabit it with infectious delight." (Entertainment Weekly)
Full disclosure - I adore Star Trek. But still, for any listener, this is such a beautiful performance. And Dickens. Like the Beatles. The real thing. A beautiful story to remind us of our social and moral obligations, at a time of year we often forget them in an orgy of spending and credit worry. Very prescient in a time of such economic inequality. Listen to it on Christmas Eve.
"It's not Christmas without this (audio)book"
This is by far one of my favorite audio books of all time.
My grandparents bought me the cassette version at LEAST 15 years ago, and I've been listening to it faithfully every year since. I don't feel that Christmas has truly arrived until I've done so.
Patrick Stewart's one-man performance is just incredible, and I actually prefer it to the "movie" version that aired a few years ago, in which he also starred.
Highly highly HIGHLY recommended!
"Captain Picard saves the day!"
I am not really a fan of the Simon & Schuster version of "A Christmas Carol" but the awesomeness of Patrick Stewart's reading makes up for the cringe factor when the story deviates from the traditional version.
The story is shorter than the traditional one so you lose some of the classic parts, but you also get another point of view so maybe it's ok.
It's a good listen, but I recommend following it up with the Patrick Stewart movie version of this story.
Very well done, enjoyable!
Patrick Stewart does a extraordinary job in this reading. He brings new energy to the characters and is just a pleasure to listen to. Well worth the money.
"My Favorite Christmas book"
Listening to Patrick Stewart reading this clasic Christmas tale in his marvelous brogue is the ONLY way to listen to it. It has become a Christmas tradition for me.
"Patrick Stewart is Brilliant"
Yes. The production is magnificent
Scrooge is in all of us.
Brilliant voice characterisations by this Shakespearean actor.
"Patrick Stewart is Outstanding"
The performance paints a very accurate picture of victorian England, Stewarts performance really puts you into the action, and draws you into the story.
Since Patrick Stewart treats this as a one man show, he is the only character
I am a big fan of Stewart, including his Star Trek performances, and as Captain Ahab in Moby Dick.
Yes, but it can be broken up into various sittings.
Well worth the price, and an exceptional recording.
"i like this book of the christmas carol"
The fast chapter 1
I like the patrick Stewart's
I did net cry at the book
I like book a last
"A New Addition to our Christmas routine"
We will listen every year on Christmas eve.
This was my first Patrick Stewart book, but as an actor I respect him and even more now.
I listened with my family in one sitting. We put it on the stereo and listened together.
"A Christmas Tradition"
Powerful, Humorous, Traditional
It's a classic story. Patrick Stewart's performance is what makes it stand out.
It's his classic voice. If you like him and if you like the story then you'll enjoy this.
It took a couple of commutes but it made for a festive holiday season.
I've been listening to this story every year since my mom bought it on cassette when I was little. It's nostalgic and wonderful.
"An abosolute must have!"
Brilliant, simply brilliant, a fantastic story, brought to new life by a fantastic performance by Patrick Stewart. Stewart doesn't just read the book, he acts it out vocally, in a true style of one of the greatest actors of our age. Definately the highest priority for this christmas.
fantastic 😀 could not stop listening. only wish it were a longer story etc. etc.
"Great story. Great narrator 5* ****"
Mine and everyone's favourite Christmas story, having seen Patrick Stewart in his movie version of Christmas Carol and loved that, was hoping I'd love this too & thankfully I wasn't disappointed. This audio book is excellent
A great Christmas story, brought to joyful life by Patrick Stewart. You will love it.
GREAT ONE CHARLIE DICKENS
This book was a great read and very funny... It had some good meaning to it!
Absolutely love this story it's one of my favourites and read beautifully by Patrick Stewart, loved him in the movie too.
I would recommend this version to anyone, just brilliant.
"I wish Patrick would do more of these."
The storyline is naturally, and always, a classic. We all know it, and have seen it countless times, in countless forms.
But Patrick really makes the book come alive, he is an excellent narrator, and makes for a very enjoyable experience.
"A Classic! This is the version to get!"
Patrick Stewart amazing performance really makes this a standout download!
