Lucy Wolcott and her little sister Glory have no one in the world but each other. Every day, they labor from dawn to dusk stitching blankets and sacks. There is scant little to eat and the nights are cold and damp. The only ray of light in their lives comes from the stories that Lucy invents, stories about a family she barely remembers, and a lot doll named Morning Glory who, Lucy promises, is destined to return to them someday.
When a deadly fever sweeps through the workhouse, the girls flee for their lives to the mean streets of London. There, they desperately try to figure out how to survive.
While searching through the muck by the river, Lucy finds an old, discarded doll, which Glory is certain is the long-lost Morning Glory. But Morning Glory is no ordinary doll. And how she leads the girls to the most surprising turns of fortune makes for a heartwarming story that brims with love, hope, and the truest spirit of Christmas.

"A magical story, expertly incorporating a dash of Dickens with extensive historical research in the early Victorian era." (Kirkus Reviews)
I purchased the christmas doll, not sure what to expect. At first I found the narrator's voice distracting, but as I became more involved in the story her voice was less intrusive.
This story reminds me a bit of "The Little Princess." The characters are endearing, and despite a somewhat bleak and heart-jerking storyline, there is thankfully, a happy ending. Good fun for everyone young and old. But don't forget your kleenex. You'll need it.
"Heartwarming But Horrific"
This wonderful tale of these two little girls is a must read. It is horrific to think that these kinds of events could/did really happen. But in the true sense of Dickens, we should not let it happen anymore. I love dolls and this helps explain why. Dolls heal us all.
This is one of my all time favorites! From the thick accent to the quaintness of each scene, from a child's eyes as she tries to remain strong, brave, and protective of her younger sister against all odds. Good insight into an orphans struggles. I re-listen to this one even when it is not Christmas. A bittersweet tale!
This is written for children, but I enjoyed it even as an adult. There are some sad moments, but the strength of the bond between two orphan sisters carries the story. The narrator was good, better with adult voices than children's.
"Beautiful story, great narration"
I really loved this beautiful story that tells of the love and sacrifice of two little girls in Victorian England. I enjoyed the narrator very much. I will definitely be listening to this one over and over.
"Not just for kids"
This is a sentimental, heartwarming story read with a lovely British accent that will get you in the Christmas spirit. The historical detail of what it was like to be poor in Victorian England is vivid and educational as well. I would recommend this to any female age 8 and up! Not that the guys aren't welcome to read it too, but I think girls and women will particularly like the theme of sisterly devotion.
"By Aniya Mitchell"
This is one of the best stories I ever read. I read this book because I needed to read 4 books for school. I've been complaining about stories being sad and movies being sad , but this book just makes my heart melt with warmth. Thank you so much Elvira Woodruff for writing this book!!!🌹
"A Christmas Tradition"
This story has become a Christmas tradition in our home. We have two girls and a boy. At first, my son objected to a story about a doll, but now he is the first to ask to listen to it every year. Beautiful story with a heartwarming ending.
"Lovely Story, Perfect for Christmas"
A delightful story set in Victorian times. Easy to listen to and not too long. The only thing wrong was the narrators odd accent, however I did get used to her voice and enjoyed the story overall. I would recommend.
"A real christmas story"
We weren't sure about this when reading the inscription, and 20 minutes into the story we thought oh no, not a heart breaker!?, but from then it just gets better and better. If you like christmas you will love this story.. a real heart warmer and everything that christmas should be about. I would recommend this to people who enjoy christmas. We cannot get it back from our Niece who loves it.
"WE LOVE THIS STORY"
This is the perfect story we listen to each Christmas or on dark winter nights. This has been in our collection for 5 years now and we still keep on listening.
Bernadette Dunn adds just the right ambiance in her narration.
More like this one PLEASE :)
