Publisher's Summary

A century before Heather and Picket's adventures in The Green Ember, a displaced community fights for hope on the ragged edge of survival.

My place beside you

My blood for yours

Till The Green Ember rises

Or the end of the world.

Whitson Mariner and Fleck Blackstar face old fears and new enemies, forging a legend that will echo through the ages.

Old wars haunt. New enemies threaten. An oath is born.

A hero rises.

    "An Enchanting Tale"
What did you love best about The Black Star of Kingston?

How absolutely enchanting it was, this book is wonderful for children and adults alike. It has true heroes who face great odds and have to make tough choices. These characters are easy to relate to and you will get lost in the story.

What about Eric Fritzius’s performance did you like?

He was wonderful in giving each character their own life and style. It was easy to get carried away with the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did laugh out loud a few times :)

    Any additional comments?

This is a great family story or a personal read. All ages will love it and it will give you something to talk about, think about and play for a long time to come. You will not look at a rabbit the same way again, you will smile.

    "Can't wait for the sequel!"

We have listened to The Green Ember and were sucked right in to the story. This prequel was very intriguing to learn the 'back story' and now we look forward to the sequel. S.D. Smith, write on!

    "Shorter prequel"

Shorter prequel. Does not require reading the Green Ember first. Looking forward to next in series.

    "Spectacular"

The Black Star was great. The only thing I would add is that you might want to make another one like it to prove that there are more books. Also, it kept on changing perspectives I would at least have it two chapters not one.

    "Short and to the point."

The trilogy was a recommended read for me. This epilogue gave great insight into the writer's temper. I am now hooked. Fantastic story. I've always liked anthropomorphic writings. As close to amazing as the Redwall series by Brian Jacques.

Our 7 year old really enjoyed it. 5 year old seemed to get lost but still finished it. I probably enjoyed listening to it with them the most
