"Fleischman's talent for writing stories from various points of view makes his works particularly appealing in audiobook form. Here, 13 different characters come alive via the distinct performances of a widely varied cast. The range of voices and styles suggests a true community." (Publishers Weekly)
This book is just amazing and is flawless!😃 I'd recommend this book to anyone over the age of about 7yrs old for content reasons.☺️ I'm just speechless!😶
"Excellent to listen"
THis audio book was even beter than the book. My students were able to listen to the different accents and understand the characters better. I LOVED it
"What a wonderful little book!"
Yes and no, This book is technically for the children's market. Even though a 4th grader could probably read the content just fine, I don't think the content is appropriate until after 7th grade.
I actually think adults will love it more than kids.
I've never read anything else like it before.
So many of the characters are incredibly powerful, but I love Leona.
I actually use this book as part of my curriculum for adults who are in a literacy class. They love the story! I love the story! It is such a simple tale, but it is so rich and full of all kinds of insight into society, immigration, history, and the human condition
How a small space brought neighbors together and unite them.
I don't have any to compare too.
I really enjoyed the accents. really brought them to life.
The author brought out the struggles and feelings in so many lives in a short story and gave hope in a struggling word.
This is a great book (especially for young teens) to learn more about other cultures in an interesting and compelling way.
"A nice story, relevant for the gardener in all of"
us. We all need to feel connected, this story helps to grow relationships in a rundown area.
"for 6th class"
yes, i would. i like that different accents and you easily it is to imaginge the characters in a film. if you are a kid who doesn't like to read much, the audiobook takes this to the level where any kid can fully understand the plot. you can see the lighbulbs going on all the time.
smile [like in 'nice story...']
"A nice short story for all ages"
Many different stories all having to do with the same thing, from different view points.
This was the first time I had heard this story. I read that it was a children's book, but I found it very interesting. I really liked the skillful way everyone told their own story, all relating to the same thing from their viewpoint. It made me wish their was a community garden in my area.
"A Heartwarming story"
a Heartwarming story of how a few individuals can improve their lives and their community with a few seeds. Big change from small actions. Great narration.
"nice to see through another's eyes"
very descriptive beautiful experiance to be able to see and feel something through some one else's eyes made you feel as though you were there
I'm surprised I'd never heard of this novella. It's a delightful story of hope and community. This production with actors reading the various stories added a great deal. Everyone did a terrific job.
