Publisher's Summary

This is the second story in the Anne of Green Gables series. Skinny little red-haired Anne has changed into a pretty 16-year-old and is all grown up - well, sort of grown up. The story opens with Anne as a school teacher at Avonlea school. When Anne reached the school that first morning, she was confronted by prim rows of "shining morning faces". She had sat up until nearly midnight composing a speech which she had revised and improved painstakingly. It was a wonderful speech with fine ideas. And then, she couldn't remember it!

As good as the original Anne of Green Gables

I chose this reading out of all those available because Laurie Klein seemed the only reader who understands that LM Montgomery must be read with irony. Anne is extremely funny, and can't be taken too seriously. This is a very old recording -- you can hear the narrator turning pages in the background -- but I found it atmospheric and engaging. I would highly recommend this audiobook as a follow-up to Rachel McAdams' excellent reading of the original Anne of Green Gables. Anne of Avonlea doesn't disappoint!

A wonderful escape from reality

I was quite disappointed that Rachel McAdams doesn't narrate the other books in the series. But this version is a very good alternative. The narrator was quite suited to the book and does an excellent job. The story is beautiful as is to be expected. It is somewhat of a bridge in Anne's life between the girlishness and adventurousness of her childhood towards womanhood. It is such an idealic story. I wish I could live in Avonlea! I heartily recommend.

Anne of Avonlea- expressive and clear audio

The classic story of Anne of Green Gables continues, with Anne still getting into scrapes in the next chapter of her life. Read well by Laurie Klein.
