Get ready for some pretty esoteric stuff but at its core this book is about self development and improvement that will affect ones consciousness during trading and for life in general.
This books is mostly advertisement for other products the author offers (most cost several hundred dollars and some are not available anyway)
Even though i would not recommend this books at all, it does have some positive things (hence the reason i gave it 2 stars).
The book is written as several testimonials about how good Dr. Tharp's workshops are
The book is divided into 3 parts the first part Dr. Tharp emphasizes the importance of position sizing and says that one should have different systems for each different market (Bull, Bear, Etc).
unfortunately that's all the trading advice you'll get from the book after that the book becomes a self help, spiritual guide. Where Dr. Tharp students testify that trading in peace and accepting what the market does without the need to be right will make you happy.
I am sure that the 2nd and 3rd part (about physiology and spiritual awakening) will help some people...
But, as far as trading is concerned, the book and this review are equally helpful. The book might be a little deeper, but since the way that book is written is so convoluted even if you would like to go back and read again some part (that you found helpful) you actually need to read a whole chapter about how much good you will get from paying Dr. Tharp a few hundred dollars.
"Missed the target"
I was hoping to hear a book on investor psychology and got 11 hours of babbling. More of a sales pitch for trading programs than a helpful book.
Not written a book.
Please send me a refund.
"Very disappointed. I felt misled."
I was expecting another great Van Tharp book only to find out it wasn't written by him. Rather it was written by his students. The whole book talk about how God can help you with trading, and is all his students talk about is how great his paid courses. I feel like the whole book is advertisement to enroll in his Supertrader courses. I didn't learn anything from the audiobook. It was a waste of my time, and I had to skip a few chapters that was so boring, and non-trading related that I fell asleep. I was thoroughly disappointed.
"Trading Beyond the Matrix should be considered the"
If you are not familiar with Dr. Tharp he has been coaching professional traders since the early 1980's. Read Market Wizards, which has a chapter dedicated to Dr. Tharp, and you will get an idea of the caliber of talent he has coached, mentored, and developed over the years.
Dr. Tharp has created a program, which he calls his Super Trader program, where he has aggregated all of his work with top traders and created a course for others to follow. A modeler of peak performance in the trading arena Dr. Tharp lays out all of the lessons required of his Super Traders before their graduation in this book. The cost of the Super Trader program ranges between $60,000-$90,000 according to their site and they claim you are receiving $120,000 worth of instruction for that price.
The book, which is a great read for entertainment alone, is really an outline of the entire Super Trader program for a fraction of the cost. The book covers topics ranging from personal psychology and self development to trading strategies, expectancy, and position sizing (all of which are crucial to success).
The book outlines his Super Trader's journeys and how they master his concepts. Dr. Tharp weighs in throughout the book but you get a perspective of how and why each of the concepts are important through the trader's eyes. The traders range from male to female, spiritual inclined to type-a personalities. This offers wide ranging insight into the truth Dr. Tharp is trying to convey within the book.
I would recommend this book to anyone regardless of their level within the trading community. If follow any, let alone all, of the the lessons in this book you will see improvement in your trading. That has been the case for myself and I believe that will be true for others.
Thought provoking - yet all the examples in the book deal with Godless, near suicidal subjects. Would be great if this book was more tailored for the 'common' investor vs. someone with 3 limbs out the window. Honestly, Tharp's personal account makes you wonder about his own self-confidence and sanity. His past reads more like a self-help, find yourself seminar marathon than any sort of rational, psychiatric credentials.
My resounding thought on the core message of the book - God created you and the universe, so why is His soul purpose now to help you with your trading decisions? I think He got grossly demoted in this book!
This was not really a trading book. Focused on selling training classes, resolving psychological issues, and finding god.
"A book where are the author advertises for his training courses"
The first part of the book was beneficial to the point that you can get something out of the book however the second part was all about people who benefit from the training course given by the author
"What a disappointment..."
This is without a doubt an advertisement for his service. I have only listened to the first student go on and on how great Van Tharp is and I don't think I can stand to listen anymore. Read the Market Wizard series instead of this.
"Trading beyond the Matrix"
Dr Van Tharp is brilliant.
Trading improvement is now just a matter of time, not will it happen?
"Immense focus on psychology and self awareness."
I believe this book contains valuable information on self improvement via thought awareness and how it relates to everything in our lives, not just trading.
The narrator did a fine job relaying the author's ideas. If you don't mind some Van Tharp advertising (not a bad thing, but I have no other experience with Van Tharp techniques), then I believe any trader, from any timeframe, will be able to walk away with many ideas that can help you become aware of your emotions, which allows you to choose their power, or to dismiss it.
...loaded with building blocks for confidence, as it's applied to trading.
This was a great listen/lesson and I will be listening to it again, as it has several resources that complement Dr. Van Tharp's, "Tharp Think".
The depth of this book may go well beyond the novice level. But if you are seriously considering trading in the financial markets, this information will provide you with the depth of understanding required to compete with the best traders in the world.
"Where is the pill?"
"The juice" is less than 10%. The rest of the book is about other people's experiences.
"Think in a different way."
Half the books is about God. I hope that does not put any potential listeners off, like it would have me. But wow!, another top trading book that must be listened to.
"Vastly more about religion, than trading"
Trimming up all Oneness and religious concepts
That he feeds reader with religious propaganda almost without anything useful. Even if i wanted a religion, I can choose it without external influence. And certainly i don't want to hear about it in a trading book.
