"A MUST for Anyone New to the Field"
I stumbled upon this as I was doing research for a presentation and so figured I'd use one of my credits to check it out. See if it was something that I can recommend to anyone who is new to this fiendish, often misunderstood industry.. It's perfect.
First of all, Peter Stormare does a phenomenal job narrating and Ed Zitron knocks it out of the park with straightforward tips that many who are new to Public Relations and marketing just never come across. Unless they're fortunate enough to land a great mentor to help keep them from screwing up too badly before they've even had a chance to really get deep into the industry.
I enjoyed Stormare's rendition of Ed Zitron's very well-written guidebook. It was almost like listening to a great novel. A novel about a guy who was telling his story about wading through those murky PR waters.
I think this should be required reading for all college students enrolled in marketing and communications programs. Much better than a lot of the crap I've come across. If you're looking for a solid support, this is it.
"Get started with PR basics"
I would recommend this to anyone that has a blog or online eCommerce as well as people who need or want PR. I have a blog and was hoping to find more PR tips and tricks to help myself without needing to hire anyone else and I have a lot of ideas now.
There were a handful of memorable moments, one being people think being a PR means going to parties and hob nobbling with celebrities like Samantha Jones from sex in the city. I found that little part funny because I love that show.
I love his accent and he was fun to listen to. Learning the information by listening to someone else especially with an accent that you can understand makes it easier for me. He did a great job with reading the book and was very easy to understand.
I wouldn't recommend listening to this one in all one sitting, more then 5 hours is kinda a lot to take in with just one sitting. I'm not saying you cant but I would do it with 2-3.
"Fantastic! This changed EVERYTHING for me"
I have been trying to get into PR as a career for years - I have done it for free before, but transitioning into actually making MONEY from it can be tough. I have read several books, even done two very expensive courses and nothing taught me as much as this book. This book changed everything. It answered the questions I always had in clean concise ways. The knowledge I learned from this book helped me form a solid plan which within one month saw me gaining proper paying clients.
If I was to choose one thing I learnt most about, it was pitching for clients - I THOUGHT I knew a lot about this, but it turns out I knew nothing. This book helped me to pitch in a more professional but personable manner which is of course vital in PR.
The narration is excellent! I often find that audiobooks can have great scripts but be let down by poor narration or poor audio quality - thankfully this book is different. Pete Stormare is excellent - engaging to listen to and obviously recorded professionally. I really enjoyed listening to it in my car and at the gym.
PR is not easy and this book is not a magic portion, you of course do still have to work hard to become successful - what this book does is gives you all of the tools and knowledge you need to move ahead. Once you have that, everything else falls into place.
I will be eternally grateful to the author of this book!
