Great detailed steps

Loved this book. Gave a clear plan in Chapter 13 of habits that will help propel you to reach financial freedom. Ways to get started, be more mindful and disciplined on spending, side hustles, house hacking. (of which I'm implementing). Follow this as soon as possible then you can choose to work not have to. Love listening to Scott on Bigger Pockets.

Some solid wisdom, a bit preachy

Sound Financial Independence (FI) advice:
- targeted specifically at young adults just starting their FI journey
- who are based in the USA
- and wish to passionately pursue FI.

However, many of the principles are applicable to older listeners, those living outside of the USA, and those who may not be in quite as much of a rush to achieve FI.

The messages are delivered with absolute conviction, sometimes in a somewhat school teacher like manner...this can be grating, particularly in some areas where I found myself at least partially disagreeing with the author. For example, I found myself disagreeing with the author's aversion to retirement accounts. His main argument being that you need to focus on usable investing money now if you are seeking early retirement and not lock the money away for decades. He did admit to several circumstances where retirement accounts do make sense though I suspect this strong messaging may lead some people to make poor decisions.

The structure of the book is good. However, some of the arguments were well presented with good story telling and analogies while some were a bit superficial...almost like the author was in a rush to complete the manuscript.

Overall, well worth the read and I took away a lot of sound pointers.

The whole book is about house hacking

This book is all about house hacking. Painful to listen over and over the same mantra!

For the middle class American man

Are you a middle of the rung American man preferably in their 20s or a late bloomer who wants to jump onto the FI bandwagon - then this is for you!

While obviously the tactics described within would work equally as well for the middle of the rung American woman, the authors poignant use of gendered language makes a strong case that this is for our Average Joe.

General tips and tricks are in line with other FI or FIRE compilations so unless you’re a middle of the rung American man you won’t find anything new here; otherwise, if you are an Average Joe, then Set For Life is likely a well formed playbook you can put to use at delivering your own Hail Mary touchdown in your financial SuperBowl of life!

Good for those without their mortgage

One of his main points is purchasing property to then use it as a primary residence and rent part out, this ain’t applicable for myself who has a mortgage, married and a child. Most other points are practical and of good use however.
