"Really Good Step-by-Step"
For such a short book, there was a lot, and I mean A LOT, here. The most important things are to develop the essential mental skills of Clarity (become absolutely clear on who you are and what you want; after all, you can't hit a target you can't see), Focus (on your most important goals--be specific, make them easily stated, and write them down), and Concentration (pursue single-mindedly until you've completed your tasks and achieved your goals). This all comes through practice and repetition, and it'd be a good idea to follow those with expertise.
There's info here on how we've become addicted to distraction (that ding that says someone's just texted you releases chemicals in the brain, and it only gets worse the more you drop everything to focus on said texts), plus how we can find our own power through the blessing of finding ours in states of excellence (again more practice/repetition).
What I liked most was near the end with step-by-step suggestions that reminded me of Angela Duckworth's "Grit," only without the plethora of scientific data (which is fine for "Grit," but really, I need a How-To at times). Resilience is covered. You look for the good when you're in a set-back. You learn from mistakes and accept responsibility for the way you choose to react. Pre-program solutions by thinking of the way you'll respond to possible problems, and begin immediately to improve upon the worst that can happen before it ever does.
There are no anecdotes in this book, no lighthearted humor: It's strictly: This is how you do it. Do you want to get it done. It's a great listen, easy to get through, and it makes life look like something that's possible to get through with success. Recommended.
There are a lot of key ideas in this book that have been mentioned in other books but never outlined so eloquently as in this one. Listen to keywords as they will be repeated more than once and write them down for memory. This books has some useful techniques to overcoming the sense of feeling overwhelmed when faced with a new idea or with trying to find your purpose.
Rated 4 stars on performance as voice was a little relaxed you have to try not to fall asleep but the trance like voice & tone may be just what you need to hear.
If you've read/heard any of Brian Tracy's other books on the subject, you've probably read/heard what's in this audiobook. Brian does A LOT of repurposing, so I expected this, but even for him, this is a stretch...
If you're new to Brian Tracy, this one will be a worthwhile listen. Otherwise, stick to his classic stuff like Eat That Frog.
I dint find anything new. Most of the stuff - Goals, Purpose etc. have been discussed numerous times.
"Kind of a simple recap of other materials"
This book presented simple recaps of ideas from other materials like, "How to Win Friends, and Influence People" to "Getting Things Done."
Half way through a short book I was already realizing this.
If you've not read other titles, this may be a simple starter for you.
"repetitive message throughout."
It wasn't bad. way too expensive. the thing could be done in half that time.
I normally love it when an author reads his or her own work, but Tracy is an exception. Here's someone who absolutely should have hired a professional narrator. His tone and voice quality were just awful. It detracted from the good ideas in this book, which by the way you've probably heard all of them before. The ideas serve as a good reminder, but don't pay full price for this.
"Just couldn't get through it!"
Even for 99 cents, don't waste your money! There are many other books that say the same thing in a clearer more concise way. The only enjoyment I received from this book was him telling parts of the story of Howard Hughes. Now, if only I could delete.
This book is made up of almost 100% regurgitated platitudes about success and goal setting. some of these antiquated ideas have been debunked such as the 'self-esteem' idea of success.
Reads like an an abridged version of slinger book. "Just the facts, please" lists of "what you should do" with little narrative. All anecdotal, with no science behind any of the recommendations.
