brilliant loved the areas on self awareness and leadership. this is a book for both people with their own businesses and those that have aspirations of doing so... but be aware this man does not tolerate fools!
Absolutely love this book. Love that Gary reads it... Engaging, exciting and very informative for an entrepreneur.
Will listen again!!
Finally pressed the pause button after 4 chapters of excruciating pain. If you like being spoken down to, patronized, and assaulted by the most inane verbosity; then this book is for you.
The trick here seems top be to get otherwise well thought of individuals to ask Gary question he can then answer with a torrent of of the cuff 'Gary Vee' cant.
There is nothing useful to see here. No real insight, nothing useful for anybody wrangling with real business issues, only hyped up 'you can do what I did' self-promotion.
Gary may be a successful entrepreneur, but he has not learnt the art of humility, nor mastered the discipline of collecting his thoughts in a useful manner. The result is a torrent of meaningless garbage, exciting perhaps for Gary wannabe fanboi's and fangirls.
If you are serious about learning something, then consider serious teachers. Gary is not one of them, despite his obvious accomplishments.
Gary has done some amazing things, but he needs to realize that he is an exception, not the rule.
People learn from examples of pain. He obviously had many pain points, setbacks. How he overcame these obstacles, whether by design, or fortune, would provide more valuable lessons to take away.
All I heard was how wonderful he was. It eventually became unbearable.
Gary needs to grow up fast. Pretty soon, he will be the old guard, dispensing wisdom to up and coming youngsters. He has real accomplishments that would give him a stable platform to do so credibly. He should let others sing his praises.
Although I did manage to listen right to the end I must admit that he's a very annoying character that is way too full of his own ego. He thinks he's got the charisma of Opera and I think he's deluded. I really admire how far he's come and how hard he works but I do feel sorry for his wife who seems to get very little of his attention. For me becoming wealthy is a way that I can spend more time with family but for him it seems that he is just a workaholic like his father. A bit sad really. Worth a read if you're American and love all that over the top stuff but I wouldn't recommend it to my friends.
words cannot really do justice to how much i got out of this book. Amazaballs
It's my own fault for purchasing this without researching it much . This audiobook has very little value . Every second question Gary "hates" . That's fine if it doesn't go for 11 hours. Repetitive . The answer to everything can't be just to hustle and try more. That's a starting point to build upon. He is clearly an experienced , successful guy but this was just a very extended podcast .
From my opinion it's hard not to respect Gary V. He has a lot of practical advice and a whole lot of heart. Definitely found more value than expected from this audiobook. Well worth the money and time invested into listening. And honestly would love to meet this a guy one day
"Did any of the 1 stars actually listen to the book?!?"
Audible member since the beginning, pre-Amazon, pre-iPod. #blueplayer
If there's one thing I can't stand in audio books, it's when the narrator is 'literally' reading-from-the-book...yes, I know that's what we're buying, but I want more, I want personality, isn't that why we look for 'read by the author'!
So much whining and complaining, "all he did was answer questions", are you kidding, forget listening to the book, did you even read the title?! This was a great book, TON of content, right blend of anecdotes, minus the obligatory rehashing of the half dozen or so ideas that most authors use to justify wasting 3 to 5 hours of air space in my car. Could've been a blog post and called it a day.
Gary gives relevant, updated answers (from the original book and show). With a world polluted with Internet gurus and social media experts that are trying to push the same tired lines and tactics, Gary is the REAL deal...and the fact that he brought on Leo Laporte (ZD/TechTV) to read questions brought this book full circle!! Loved every minute, smiled the whole time, can't wait for the next one! #questionofthedayanswered
"A little narcissistic"
More about Gary and little about tips. I guess he is not my style. I understand he is successful but I don't feel I could ever have a one on one conversation with him.
"Whiny and narcissistic"
Gary has built a brand and a company that has sadly attracted people with nonexistent self-will. There is no great insight or wisdom found in this book that exceeds that which is found in the phrase of "keep your head up, your eyes open and your heart ready"
Thankfully, I didn't have to pay for this crock.
"best yet! Gary is the man!"
this is his best book yet. read all of his books ..well worth the time spent listing
"I never thought I would write a bad review for anyone."
It is simply my opinion that Gary's ego is bigger than the value I found in this book. Many may find value and enjoy this audio book if they are fans of Gary. In fairness this is my first full exposure to him and I will most likely not be a fan. I simply did not even want to finish it in fact I did not finish it. I do not have to agree with someone to find value in their words and he does have some good content but if I could get my money back I would.
"Whats with the great reviews?!?"
It was destined to be terrible
Annoyance and disappointment
What do people know that I do not? I purchased this book strictly because of the raving reviews for this book and boy WAS I DISAPPOINTED. This book is nothing more than 1 giant EGO BOOST to the author. This guy seriously believes he is the greatest thing since sliced bread and is definitely not afraid to show it. This author is egotistical almost to the point of offensiveness. Maybe this book is designed for people who have little to no business acumen but as a seasoned and successful entrepreneur I have nothing good to say about this book or author. I am always looking to increase my knowledge and work on personal development but I found neither possible while listening to how awesome Gary Vaynerchuk is. I have no doubts he is successful in business but can anybody stand him long enough to be with him for extended periods of time? Sorry Gary, maybe its time you learned a lesson in becoming and/or staying humble.
"Low quality rant targeted at teens"
Definitely, no! The self-taught author who takes pride in being uneducated and the fact that he does not read, saying he read more books than he wrote (fewer than five), is a terrible writer. The author explicitly confirms that he does not read any other authorities claiming that he learns everything he needs from his social followers. Combine these two facts and try to find any value his writing may bring you.
"A Compilation of Rants and Not Really a Book"
The only reason I read books is to get long form content not available online for free. This book is a list of Question and answers from his show all compiled in a book and NOT really a book. Each answer is just a rant and nothing is in-depth. What is the point of a book if its not indepth. I literally mean 1 word answers.
The author himself mentions that he has never read a book in his life and does not read. Yet he decides to write a book. Interesting.
I get it he is great at snapchat etc but a book is not supposed to be the same format as a snapchat feed. He probably got inspired by Kim Kardashian's selfie book.
Its a waste of time and money.
Something new and more in-depth than a guy ranting on different topics for 2minutes each. I dont read books for 1 word answers.
The entire idea was flawed, its not even a book. Its a chain of rants.
Instead of doing 100's of questions it would have been better to do pick 12 topics and gone indepth on those. Zero to One was a book of rants as well but atleast it was indepth rants that made you think unlike this book which did nothing.
Please Please Please read some books to understand what books mean.
"Don't read your own book, offer something new"
I have been trying to suffer through this book, I just cant take it any longer. Haven't heard anything new or worthwhile. Who is this guy? Another mid level youtube star??? Who cares? Who is this book for? People who know nothing at all about startups or have never heard the word startup? As an entrepreneur making a decent living in LA, I was looking for something to add to my knowledge. Not only is there nothing worth listening to here, the author says in absolute terms to avoid certain things he has never tried. A number of these things have helped me succeed. If I practiced that this book teaches, I would not have a business. I wish I could forget everything I just heard from this this youtube star.
No, never, spare me.
Not one, just the "return this book" feature. Thank you audible
Read duct tape marketing instead
"Buy this book now!!"
Gary Vaynerchuk at his best. You'll learn so much about life, parenting, business, wine, sports and yes, social media 😊 One of my top 3 books of 2016 and I've read over 40 this year.
"Some great hidden tips, but too self focused & notch-potch"
Yes, because there is clearly knowledge, experience & passion in there. There are 2 main draw-backs with this book: 1. It is too far, wide and hotch-potch. Gary talks a lot about going 'deep' not 'wide' yet this book is trying to be everything & all over the place. I don't think people other than die hard Gary fans buy books to be everything, IMHO2. It is too self focused. Too much self exaggeration, self interruption, self pre-framing. In a world of distraction & fighting for attention it would have been way more powerful to cut that all out & let the good knowledge speak louder, because Gary does have it but you have to wade through a lot of distraction.
1. Rambled & preambled a lot less before & during each point2. Made the information more focused on the listener 3. Made it more niched, relevant & focusedAnd therefore...4. Made it about 4-5 hours shorter
As above. There is passion and gusto & confidence & his fans seem to like it. Naturally therefore some are not going to like it. I was very close to switching it off a few times & that probably dis-services the good stuff that is in-between.
As above. Plus the rambles, saying what he is/is going to do before he says it [just say it], jump from topic to topic less, create a more clear concept [perhaps this book would serve better in a different format, or should have waited a decade and become an auto-biography.
Good social proof of stars/celebs reading questions but not really an Audible book format. Too long; you have to wade to get to the best bits.I thought long & hard before leaving this review as a fellow author and because there are clearly some great shares in this audio, but I feel the 4.80/5 total reviews must be heavily biased towards American 'fans' of Gary and not more balanced views. For a book to be almost 100% it should in my humble view have a more clear, cohesive & linear concept, be respectful of the listeners time & attention & be edited much better to decide the best 60% & the 40% to edit out. Sometimes in a 14 hour audio, a lot less is a lot more. This review is designed to be helpful so if you are prepared to sit through you will pick up some good tips. If you are a UK listener you may find it a little intense.
"Does not live up to the hype"
This was the first audio book that I was tempted to give up on midway. Maybe I needed to be a Gary fan before listening to this. He just comes across as too full of himself with an ego the size of a planet. "How should I pitch to a VC ?" Reply "Just do it". Thanks that was inspirational. Sorry but "your gift" as you put it was not for me. Just my 2 cents.
"so so so so..."
only 5 hours are useful, 8 are useless. Gary with all respect you talk too much bullsht and how awesome you are - it's actually annoying.
"WOW BUY BOTH"
Best audio book in business! So many lessons and actions in this book that will help you have clarity in your business decisions!
"Gary Vee you are my hero!!!"
I have been following Gary Vee for a while now.. And had enormous expectations.. And yet he always delivers more than expected. His charisma and superhero like energy just make me smile and inspire me! This book does not only give value in terms of business but about life, gratitude and inspires me to get out there and be the best I can be! I love this guy and my biggest dream would be to work for him one day! Would recommend this book to ANYONE, graduates who just finished school like myself, moms and dads who are struggling with work/life balance.. Professionals-anyone!! There's so much we can learn from this superman Gary Vee! THANK YOU, thank you, thank you!! I know I will play the book over and over again.. And every time there will be a new take away, a new piece of gold according to where I am in life! LOVE IT <3
"Essential Business Knowledge!"
A real pleasure to listen too, compounds, and even stress tests the #Truth of Gary's Business 'religion'. Excellent Oversight of the actual market we live in right now!
Exactly why you'd expect from Gary V, a must listen for anybody marketing in 2016 👍🏻
"Wow - inspirational"
This is a very powerful audio book and one which I enjoyed immensely!
For any budding entrepreneurs, a lot of what Gary talks about should 'hit home' and inspire you to become the best of who you can be.
I have some words which could sum up my thoughts on This one of a kind book.
Inspiring, funny, instructional, genius, authentic, remarkable, enlightening, informative, enjoyable and overall - bloody fantastic.
Best money be ever spent and I've listened to it twice already
this was my first time listening to Gary having seen this book recommended online a few times. so interesting, insightful and different
Gary Vaynerchuck.. he says it how he sees it. The beauty in this book is Gary's simple yet effective way to cut through the bull and give so much valuable content with a style that oozes confidence yet embraces a stripped bare naked open and honest approach. I loved listening to it the first time... and I expect will continue to do so as the value of the content is easily 1000x the cost of the book. Thank you Gary.
