Wildflower is a portrait of Drew's life in stories as she looks back on the adventures, challenges and incredible experiences of her earlier years.
It includes tales of living on her own at 14 (and how laundry may have saved her life), getting stuck in a gas station overhang on a cross country road trip, saying good-bye to her father in a way only he could have understood and many more adventures and lessons that have led her to the successful, happy and healthy place she is today.
It is the first book Drew has written about her life since the age of 14.

Barrymore entices the reader in with her engaging presentation of stories from her life. Down to Earth, insightful and wise this book is, as she says, for all ages and for anyone who has ever wondered what their own purpose in life will be.
5 Stars, Loved it!
Drew Barrymore has not lived an ordinary life, so I was expecting this book to be interesting.
Instead, it was like spending a seven hour flight sat next to a chatty moron.
given that Drew Barrymore has lead an unusual life - child star, institutionalised, emancipation etc this is an incredibly boring book. I'm site she would have some really interesting stories to tell but seems she only wants to share the mundane details. her narration isn't great, speaking like a teenager and lots of unnecessary screaming. struggled to maintain interest to finish it
The bits about ET are particularly interesting and Drew's childhood which wasn't a childhood at all. You see things from her perspective not just the media's version. The reasons behind why she was on drugs at a young age, even though she never talks about her addictions explicitly. Some parts are a little cheesy but overall it's uplifting & a fun listen- good for a commute!
"Drew is my new BFF"
I LOVED this book! Why? Because it's honest , hilarious, real, interesting, inspiring and so wise. The best part was having Drew narrate it. I am a mother of 5 in her early 40's but I feel that this book is for everyone, maybe particularly for us girls. I shared it with my 15 year old daughter and she also loved it too. This one is definitely going under the tree to all my girlies so that they can get inspired to love and live life to the full. ❤️
I totally loved listening to this book and fell in love with Drew, the way she reads it is colourful and inspiring, I love the way that all her misfortunes in her early life have given her the strengths to get to where she is today a bit like me as I am the same age! I'm so glad she got her happy ending!
"Didn't want this book to end!"
Compelling. Wonderful. Beautiful and fun!
This book made me smile, cry and laugh. Thank you for sharing your life stories.
Easy to listen to. Fascinating and very real, down to earth insight into Drew Barrymore
I really enjoyed Drew Barrymore's narration as she is so expressive and a really positive speaker. The book is comprised of stories from her life and her reflecting back on her past experiences.
"A book to make you smile inside"
Like Drew was sitting chatting to me personally - honest open and funny - thank you
"Having drew read this made it more amazing"
I learnt so much from her stories and the fact it was written as short stories of her life made it bettet. I started to read the book version of this but the voice in my head didnt do it justice; having drew read this made it more amazing!
"very enjoyable if a little jumpy"
lovely to hear Drew's life story, heartwarming and heartbreaking in places. a wonderful tale of triumph over difficulties and a journey of a girl from youth to motherhood and beyond.
slightly frustrating that the time line jumps around so much but otherwise a fantastic listen .
would certainly recommend 😀
"Kooky, sweet and funny"
Wildflower is as kooky, sweet and funny as you imagine Drew Barrymore to be in person. Rather than a traditional autobiography, it's written as a collection of essays on various aspects of her life, which glosses over the dark patches and focuses on key relationships and personal philosophy. It's peppered with charming anecdotes, as well as bemusing phrases such as "l haven't thought about this in ages, but it haunts me every day."
Drew's narration of her own text is less like an audiobook than a series of coffee dates with an over-emotional, borderline-hysterical friend. And she does have a tendency to scream, whether in excitement or frustration, at the memories she is recounting.
I wouldn't recommend Wildflower to anyone who wasn't a fan of Drew Barrymore's films. But to quote the book, "happiness is a choice." So you can choose to enjoy the ride, even if the rollercoaster is a bit shaky.
listening to this book brought out so many emotions, it made me cry, smile uncontrollably, even jump unexpectedly and laugh! Drew made me relise I never really had it that bad after all, it's the only book I could listen too again and again....truly inspiring
