Publisher's Summary

Imagine standing on a box in the middle of a busy city, dressed as a white-faced bride, and silently using your eyes to ask people for money. Or touring Europe in a punk cabaret band, and finding a place to sleep each night by reaching out to strangers on Twitter. For Amanda Palmer, actions like these have gone beyond satisfying her basic needs for food and shelter - they've taught her how to turn strangers into friends, build communities, and discover her own giving impulses. And because she had learned how to ask, she was able to go to the world to ask for the money to make a new album and tour with it, and to raise over a million dollars in a month.

In The Art of Asking, Palmer expands upon her popular TED talk to reveal how ordinary people, those of us without thousands of Twitter followers and adoring fans, can use these same principles in our own lives.

This audio digital download includes a PDF featuring photographs and song lyrics.

Just take the F'ing flower!!!

Amanda has the most captivating voice - she draws you in from the first word to the last. She shares her story with honesty, love, and opens up in a way that puts you right there with her. There are so many stellar points and learning curves from her story, and you can feel and appreciate the vulnerability in her voice - she really does lay it on the line.

Without a doubt one of my Top 3 favourites of all time.

required text for humanity

tearing into ourselves to see what we are made of is important. listening to someone else do it is helpful and instructive even if occasionally painful.

Beautiful tale about connection and being human

I loved this book even though I didn't know who Amanda Palmer was or even really have an interest in the topic. It fell in my lap on the suggestion of others when I had stated I wanted conscious connections with others. That is exactly what this book is about - connecting, being real, giving and receiving. It was moving and raw. Thank you Amanda for sharing. I feel honoured to receive from you.

Very inspiring book! So great

This book was SUPER inspiring!!! And Amanda Palmer was really easy to relate to and understand. I hadn't heard many Dresden Doll songs in a few years but I have a new found love for the band and Amanda Palmer and I now want to buy this book for a few friends it made me think of. I found it easier to listen to than read but that's only because I don't really find the time. I did just get through 6hours straight on audio!

I will probably buy a Ukelale now.

This wasnt just an audibook. It felt like a performance and a conversation. I appreciated how genuine, raw and confident Amanda came across. It has the qualities of a self help book without the buzzwords. It helped me reflect a lot of myself. I foresee myself buying a Ukelale now (Preferably purple) and taking up a chair and starting to write again. I would highly highly reccomend.

Heart Opening

Would you consider the audio edition of The Art of Asking to be better than the print version?

Yes, completely. I love this audio edition because it's actually Amanda telling you a story and singing to you as well, so wonderful to hear her voice tell her story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Art of Asking?

I listened whilst working on some projects and had to often stop and take notes and let tears fall down my face so many times, oh my how I love this audio book

Have you listened to any of Amanda Palmer’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have been to a concert and I am a Patreon, I love what Amanda does but this book was the gateway to all those things for me... this was a wonderful beginning.
