Story
The forthright, fascinating memoir of Peter Moody, trainer of Black Caviar and one of Australia's most high-profile and best-liked racing identities. The classic story of a boy from the bush who worked his way from outback Queensland all the way to Royal Ascot. As a kid growing up in tiny Wyandra, Peter Moody learned to ride almost before he could walk. Horses were part of life, and as a teenager working for local trainers he learned many lessons - some of them painful - as he built his understanding of them. A mate's introduction got him a stablehand's job for the legendary trainer Tommy Smith in Sydney, and his life changed forever.

It begins with the entrancing story of champion trainer Peter Moody, who came to select and guide the fastest horse the world had ever seen. He is one of the most talented footballers of the modern era and a dual international in rugby league and rugby union. But for a long time, Mat Rogers lived in both the shadow and the thrall of his famous father, and their complex relationship shaped him in ways he couldn’t fathom. Craving paternal acceptance while determined to carve out his own identity and, later, to avoid repeating the sins of the father, he veered between periods of jubilation and depression. Now, in his majestic, evocative autobiography, Rogers tells the story of a life framed by triumph and tragedy.

Brutally honest
- By Anonymous User on 05-10-2022
Publisher's Summary
John Singleton is one of Australia's most colourful and charismatic personalities, constantly in the headlines for his stunning business coups and extraordinary lifestyle. His public image is that of the loveable larrikin: a brash, irreverent bloke's bloke, ready to shout drinks for an entire racecourse to celebrate a big win. Yet the women in his life - and that includes an astonishing total of six wives - speak to a complex and highly sensitive man capable of great charm and tenderness.
The true story of his turbulent life, revealed for the first time in this boots-and-all biography by Gerald Stone, is both fascinating and inspiring. It stands as living proof that in an increasingly impersonal world there's still a way to achieve fame and fortune by having the courage to be yourself.
