Publisher's Summary

What does it take to lead a team to world-class success over a sustained period of time?Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the few leaders who truly knows. In his 38 years in management, Sir Alex won an astonishing 49 trophies and helped grow Manchester United into one of the biggest commercial brands in the world.

In this inspirational and straight-talking new book, Sir Alex reveals the secrets behind his record-breaking career.

Leading is structured around the key skills that Sir Alex values most highly. It includes subjects we immediately associate with his managerial style: Discipline, Control, Teamwork and Motivation. But it also addresses subjects that are less obvious but no less important when seeking success: Delegation, Data Analysis and Dealing with Failure.

Written with the investor Sir Michael Moritz, a longstanding friend of Sir Alex, Leading is packed with insight, wisdom, humour and honesty. The individual stories inevitably concern themselves with football, and the phenomenal success that came along the way, but the lessons can be applied by anyone. Whether you run a business, teach in a classroom, or work in a small team, Leading will help you become a better leader.

    "A true knight"

A absolute pleasure to learn from a great, his intuitive ideas and plans created impressive history. however the epilouge destroyed such a story.

    "Excellent and inspiring"

Great narration and story, I'm not a United fan but while the book is mainly centred around United it is the ethos, actions and learning curve that got my attention. Seeing the bigger picture and getting the best out people worth investing in.

    "Well worth a listen"

As someone who followed Alex Fergusons career I found this very interesting.

Ferguson gives details of dealing with players and advice on how he progressed in his field.

I would say if your weren't a football fan and wanted a leadership book there are better options available. But for anyone who would like a crossover between sport and work/business this would be worth a listen.

The narration is good, its not by Ferguson but the Scottish narrator gives it an authentic feel.

    "Self Indulgent Rubbish"

Did I enjoy this book?? Not one bit. As a United fan, I thought it would be interesting to get a glimpse of the club through Sir Alex's eyes but my good god this is insanely dull. He tells us that he supposedly only ever had four world class players at United. Really?? Rooney, Keane, Beckham, Van Nistelrooy, Schmeichel, Stam, Ince, De Gea, none of those were world class?? Turn it in.

"A bit of a let down"
What did you like best about Leading? What did you like least?

Was really looking forward to this but the insights seem somewhat diluted to make this read just like yet another mainstream leadership book rather than an insightful peak into a top class manager's experience.

If you’ve listened to books by Alex Ferguson and Michael Moritz before, how does this one compare?

    It is OK

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favourite?

    Alex Ferguson!

If this book were a film would you go see it?

    Probably not

    Any additional comments?

Put Roy Keanes first biography on audible please! 😉

    "Voice changes"

At points towards the end of the book a different actor seems to read parts of the book. This is very off putting.

However overall it is an interesting read for a football fan and a leader like me. I will listen again at some point I think.

"Down to earth view of Leadership Qualities"

This book offers practical references of leadership skills albeit via football references. Which I could easily identify with. The commentary of comparison to the tech industry was insightful and proved true leaders can operate anywhere because the values and principles they have are what determines their success. Excellent read.

    "An insight into management"

A very interesting and in depth look as Sir Alex, so much to learn for all in or with aspirations to leadership (rather than simply management !).

    "Great Book!"

As a fan of both football and business I was intrigued by this book. This is a great insight to the values of a leader and how he approached his role. Some great stories help convey the understanding. Really enjoyed the book
