Publisher's Summary

The ultimate collection of unbelievable true Australian stories: the unknown, the forgotten and the surprising. Did you know that in 1932 the Australian army was called out to wage war on an invading army of 20,000...emus? Or that the first royal personage to arrive in Australia was the King of Iceland, and he came as a convict? And how about the spooky phenomenon of the mischief-making Guyra Ghost?

From Jim Haynes, one of our most successful and prolific tellers of yarns and bush tales, comes this ultimate collection of unbelievable true Australian stories: the unknown, the forgotten, the surprising, the truly weird and the completely inexplicable. Told with refreshing understatement, Australia's Most Unbelievable True Stories vividly evokes a vanishing Australia when anything was possible, when characters were larger than life and the bizarre and strange were normal.

It is an excellent book, that introduces you to many wonderful stories; Australians should be proud of Beautifully written and brilliantly narrated by Jim Haynes. Extremely entertaining and beautiful to listen to. I would recommend it to any reader who wants to know a bit more than what he knows about this great county.

Historical accounts of Australian people

The voice is well metered and the stories important and interesting. Very modern only I would have enjoyed some more diverse stories of disability or woman and indigenous historical figures. There are some woman but not as equally portraits. Fair and true depiction s of many.

Looking for excitement

Pretty mundane. A little history but dragged out. Sorry I took 2 months to get 4 hours left. I just didn’t want to play the audio nook

Anti-transgender bias

The book blatantly misgenders a transgender man, Eugene Falleni, calling him by his birth name and repeatedly using the pronoun "her," despite acknowledging he lived his life as a man and was treated as a man by those around him. Misgendering trans people isn't acceptable and tarnishes the entire book.

Hard going!

Some interesting stories included, however the reader is hard to listen to with quite a monotonous tone and no variance on expression so I gave up half way through. Didn't enjoy this enough to continue unfortunately.
