A small British army is stranded when the French invade northern Portugal and Lieutenant Richard Sharpe meets the future Duke of Wellington.
Sharpe is stranded behind enemy lines, but he has Patrick Harper, his riflemen, and he has the assistance of a young, idealistic Portuguese officer. When he is joined by the future Duke of Wellington they immediately mount a counter-attack and Sharpe, having been the hunted, becomes the hunter once more. Amidst the wreckage of a defeated army, in the storm-lashed hills of the Portuguese frontier, Sharpe takes his revenge.
Soldier, hero, rogue - Sharpe is the man you always want on your side. Born in poverty, he joined the army to escape jail and climbed the ranks by sheer brutal courage. He knows no other family than the regiment of the 95th Rifles whose green jacket he proudly wears.

"Book 7 the best yet"
Enjoyed this book emencley good pace with twist and turns . Rupert Farley' s naration is concistant thought the series, which allows you to pickup one book after another and slip straight back into Sharps world .
"Another great historical instalment"
I'm starting to get an appreciation of the Peninsula action in the early 1800's and leave Havoc with an appetite to learn more.
Fantastic once again and gripping, also well narrated.Bernard Cornwell has come up with a terrific character that every boy would love to be,brave and heroic!.
"great set of books"
perfect for ur comute to and from work to block out were u are :)
"High Quality Havoc"
This is a classic series, one of the best anywhere in the genre. Cornwell delivers a consistently high level experience with each Sharpe novel and this is no exception. Sensibly sticking with the splendid Rupert Farley we are returned to the Iberian Peninsula where Sharpe performs his normal heroics with the highly enjoyable Sergeant Harper at his side.
There is an outline formula to most of these books so yes there is a fair maiden and a dastardly enemy and so on but the constantly refreshed scenarios and highly varied story lines keep the books interesting. At this point in the series I think it suffices to say that if you want more of the high quality military fiction you saw in the earlier books this one will deliver another installment for you.
