Danger surounds all those who oppose the ruling elite. But together with his protégés, Lostris, the beautiful 14-year-old daughter of his master Lord Intef, and the proud young army officer Tanus, Taita begins the long and dangerous journey towards his own glorious dream: to restore the majesty of the Pharaoh of Pharaohs on the glittering banks of the nile.

His voices were fantastic and brought the characters out beautifully
I loved the book but felt really let down by what was cut out in this abridged version. I bought this without realising that it was abridged so my fault I guess.
I really enjoyed the book. However it wasn't as good as the African series.
Also there were single words clipped off at the end of a lot of sentences/paragraphs which was mildly annoying.
I have read this book more times than I should admit, it is a bit of an obsession almost. what I can't understand about this audio book, is why they leave out entire sections of text from the book. I assumed it would be read exactly as the book is written, but for some unknown reason they have decided to cut and change the storyline.
in love with the realistic character's, the beatific scene's described just so that your own imagination can bring forth vivid wonderful scenes and depictions that you want to relive over and over again,,,
"Why making abridged vertion?"
The original is far better than this abridged vertion who takes away most of what makes this story compelling.
I was disapointed!
"Couldn't finish it"
I didnt like the narration and the story. Its nice that is in ancient egypt but I didnt find I was learning a lot about how things wore done then. I read 50% of the book and gave up
"the river god"
xalent book so is the audible thing.
"A little disappointed"
Beautiful story and Tahita is still my most loved book character. BUT the reading is abridged and missing a lot of the story!!! Some of my very most favourite parts have been taken out. It's still a pleasure to listen to but I would recommend reading to the book witch is more complete.
Can't express how disappointed I am with this bullet point version of River God It's been abridged almost beyond recognition , huge swathes of the original book have been omitted .
If you loved reading the book , this version is guaranteed to leave you asking what happened to the story
"Emotional roller coaster"
This well written story, equally well narrated, draws on the whole spectrum of human emotions. In parts it is chilling and brutal, and in others romantic and seductive. If you like historical drama, you'll love River God.
It was chopped so much I nearly couldn't follow the story. The whole slaughter of the Shrikes by the rise of the slave girls is missing as is the rescue of the king on his barge. A very disappointing audio book and Audio book should be ashamed of putting it in their catalogue.
"Great fun story"
I really enjoyed this book .
Kept me entertained whilst I decorated!
Highly recommended for a light hearted listen. Good fun
"Fact & fiction weaved together by a true master."
I first read this book 22 years ago as a young teenager & it truly captivated me. I didn't know when I turned the last page just how it would subtly influence my years to come. It kindled a fascination for the ancient world that grew into a passion, leading to an Ancient History degree & a career writing historical fiction. Rediscovering the story, this time via audiobook, I was reminded just how fantastic & mesmerising a tale Wilber Smith created. Blending fact & fiction seamlessly & immersing the reader/listener in a world both exotic & familiar. This tale is as immortal as it characters!!
"very good book"
one of my favourite book one to hear over again intresting very enjoyable relaxing a book for any seson to enjoy
"Excellent read many times never get bored."
Just as good listening to it. Excellent author. Always waiting for next book to be published.
"History at its best"
as good to listen to as it was to read so many years ago....I look forward to listening to the next book.
I love Wilbur Smith and this Egyptian saga, but having read the book the abridged audio leaves out so much it left me looking for the paper copy again.
