Publisher's Summary
This tale begins with Jack Aubrey arriving home from his exploits in the Mediterranean to find England at peace following the Treaty of Amiens. He and his friend Stephen Maturin, surgeon and secret agent, begin to live the lives of country gentlemen, hunting, entertaining, and enjoying amorous adventures. Their comfortable existence, however, is cut short when Jack is overnight reduced to a pauper with enough debts to keep him in prison for life. He flees to the continent to seek refuge. Instead he finds himself a hunted fugitive as Napoleon has ordered the internment of all Englishmen in France.
Patrick O'Brian is regarded by many as the greatest historical novelist of the 20th century. Post Captain is the second novel in his remarkable Aubrey/Maturin series.

Without so much as a kiss my hand I was transported into the World of JA and SM. I have read a handful of these novels over the years and intend to collect them all on Audible.
Capital stuff for wasters and lubbers alike.

Austen-era courting - naval officer perspective
Really enjoying this series and the Narrator's character voices. Quite fun to see the Austen style of romancing from a naval man's perspective.
As in the first book, the observations both Aubrey's and Maturin's perspectives create a lively story.

Loved listening to it
Great way to work through a long story in an older English. Easier to listen than to read

Austin of the English chanel?
While I enjoyed this title, it wasn't as interesting as the previous book in the series. Initially, I felt as though I had started listening to Pride and Prejudice by mistake! I suppose the love lives of the characters make for good development going forward, but I found myself losing interest in parts. The strain on Aubrey and Maturin's relationship added some good tension, and I did feel sorry for the poor Captain at times! The bees were hilarious. I was also surprised at how abruptly the book ended; I would've liked to have a bit more time spent on the sea action. However, it was a good listen and I'm looking forward to the next book.

Promotion and fortune
This is quite a different book from Master and Commander, with a lot of the story told on land. It introduces new characters and plot arcs, while still giving the listener some bloody naval battles and sea time. Very well read and an interesting tale.

Post Captain-on THE LIST at last!
I have read the complete JA series and most of Patrick's other books several times but the audible book has brought it more to life and identified several bits of information that I had missed! Ric Jerrom has brought the first two books to a higher level with his reading and excellent accents. BZ and thanks GSP....
