So begins a dramatic quest for adventure and the spoils of war that sweeps the Courteneys from the settlement of Good Hope at the southern tip of Africa and on to the Great Horn of Ethiopia far to the north. It was a time when international maritime law permitted acts of piracy, rape, and murder otherwise punishable by death.

giving a review is a waste of time if it has to be a number of words
I've read this book before and thought I would work my way through all Wilbur Smith's audible books. However this audible book is missing half the story. Not sure if the narrator purposely skipped half the story or just got bored reading the story!
good story as always with Smith, the Courteney saga in another era, but abridged versions always seem to be lacking.
"Trip back in time to see earlier generations."
Trip back in time to see the earlier Courtneys and what they were up to.
"Abridged? Butchered - did the Buzzard edit it?"
This is one of my favourite books. It's okay, if like me you only got this short version to recap before reading the Golden Lion. But if you haven't read the whole story before don't bother with this. If you're old enough to remember watching TinTin - it's like that!!
