Story
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's there are few. So begins this most beloved of all American Zen works. Seldom has such a small handful of words provided a teaching as rich as this famous opening line of Shunryu Suzuki's classic. In a single stroke, the simple sentence cuts through the pervasive tendency students have of getting so close to Zen as to completely miss what it's all about. An instant teaching in the first minutes. And that's just the beginning.

Story
It’s true, as they say, that we can only love others when we first love ourselves and we can only experience real joy when we stop running from pain. The key to understanding these truisms lies in remaining open to life in all circumstances, and here Pema Chödrön shows us how. Because when we embrace the happiness and suffering, intelligence and confusion that are a natural part of life, we can begin to discover a wellspring of courageous love within our hearts.

Publisher's Summary
Each day we deal with the challenges of ordinary life: a series of mundane experiences that could be summarized by the title of this book, Work, Sex, Money. We all hope that these aspects of our life will be a source of fulfillment and pleasure, and they often are. Yet they are also always sources of problems for which we seek practical advice and solutions. The best prescription, according to Chögyam Trungpa, is a dose of reality and also a dose of respect for ourselves and our world. His profound teachings on work, sex, and money celebrate the sacredness of life and our ability to cope with its twists and turns with dignity, humor, and even joy. He begins by breaking down the barrier between the spiritual and the mundane, showing that work, sex, and money are just as much a part of our spiritual life as they are a part of our everyday existence. He then discusses these subjects in relation to ego and self-image, karma, mindfulness, and meditation.
"Work" includes general principles of mindfulness and awareness in how we conduct everyday life as well as discussion of ethics in business and the workplace. "Sex" is about relationships and communication as a whole. "Money" looks at how we view the economics of livelihood and money as "green energy" that affects our lives. The result is an inclusive vision of life, one that encompasses the biggest issues and the smallest details of every day. There are, in fact, few definitive answers in these pages. There is, however, authentic wisdom providing us with tools we need to work with the toughest stuff in our lives.

Great book, but rushed performance.
Loved the book, but the guy reading it is really rushing through it. It's kinda stressful trying to listen to a spiritual book being read this quickly. Feels like im missing bits and not absorbing the message unless i played it at 0.85-0.9x speed.

Subtle shifts of awareness as I listened
Boldly approaching topics typically avoided by Buddhism and society alike. Great to have the space and perspectives to consider these topics aside from or as part of one's everyday life. This made me order more Chogyam Trungpa audible books... so far this is still my favourite. Think anyone interested in meditation or Buddhist dharma would benefit from listening to this.
