Story
Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy. Sometimes her past still hurts: losing her mother early, growing up in foster care. But her husband, Simon, is always there. A successful surgeon, he’s the envy of every woman they’ve ever met. Flowers, gifts, trips to France: nothing is too good for his family. Then Simon says another woman’s name. The way he lingers on it, Caroline, gives Marianne a shudder of suspicion, but she knows it’s nothing - she can’t entertain this flash of paranoia.

Story
My darling son, Sam, is marrying his childhood sweetheart, and I couldn’t be prouder of the man he’s grown into. Walking out on his abusive father all those years ago was the best thing I ever did. And today he stands, tall and handsome, saying "I do" to my dream daughter-in-law. If I hadn’t pushed them together all those years ago, he might never have found a girl as perfect as Lauren. It’s true what they say, mother always knows best.

You’ve been excited about this getaway for months–at last, a chance to reconnect with your husband at a secluded island resort. Carly had thought they’d always live there. The beautiful Cornish cliffside house they’d taken on as a wreck, that Mark had obsessively redesigned and renovated - a project that had made him famous. It was where they’d raised their children, where they’d sat cozily on the sofa, watching storms raging over the sea below. It was where they’d promised to keep each other’s secrets. Until now. Because Mark has fallen in love. With someone he definitely shouldn’t have. Someone who isn’t Carly. And suddenly their family home doesn’t feel like so much of a safe haven.

My husband is a doctor. He’s smart and charming, and everybody trusts him. Except me. On the surface, it looks like I have it all–the perfect marriage, the perfect husband, the perfect life. But it’s far from the truth. Doctor Drew Devlin is not the respectable figure he makes out to be. The reason we moved to this beautiful, old property with a gorgeous view of the sea was because we needed to put our past behind us. It should’ve been a fresh start for us both.

Publisher's Summary
"You don't think Jamie and I have secrets, do you? No, we tell each other everything", she smiled. "Including your dirty little secret. So, thinking about it, maybe it's time to start being nice to me?"
The wife: Clare is ready for a break. It's been a tough year and now she wants to put her feet up. Arriving at the Italian villa for their summer holiday, she decides it's high time her husband and his family did some of the work. After all, her husband owes her....
The husband: Even though Dan had his head turned by someone else, he's realised the error of his ways. He's here now, and he says it's for keeps. Clare can trust him, can't she? At least he'll have his brother there, to keep him in line....
The brother: Jamie is the prodigal child, back in the family fold again, after years of travelling abroad. But when he gets to the villa, he's not alone. He's brought a wife, someone none of them have met before.
The sister-in-law: Ella is everything Clare isn't. Glamorous. Young. Influential. But she knows a secret about Clare. Something that has the power to break the whole family apart.
And there's someone who will do whatever it takes to make sure that this deep secret never comes to the surface.
An utterly gripping, twisty psychological thriller perfect for fans of Before I Go to Sleep, The Girl on the Train, and Date Night.
"Tense, atmospheric psychological thriller with more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. Impeccably written and a big fat 5 stars from me. Awesome!" (Number one best-selling author Angela Marsons)

It was an ok book however it was very predictable and the narrator’s voice sounded like she was talking with a marble on her mouth. I was hoping it would be better as the book went on but was disappointed.

Annoyance at lead women
Nearly gave up part way thru, then listened to bits of future chapters which I normally wouldn't do. Continued but characters frustrated me. Weak, bitter women. Narrator sounded like she was in a play which was very annoying.

Easy reading . Not particularly mysterious or thrilling
This story was easy reading and entertaining, however I found it to be fairly predictable.
The characters were all quite annoying in their own right. Not relatable or believable, and often far fetched in their behaviors.
The narration was not great . The ‘written’ narrator was said to be in her 40s but sounded in her 70s instead. Didn’t love the reading in the audio.

Gripping
This story was very gripping. However, I felt that the story dragged on and felt like it wasn't going anywhere until the last 10 chapters. That being said, the dialogue between the two main characters was brilliantly written and it was really quite a challenge to put down towards the end.

Horribly narrated!
I came close to returning this book as it’s so badly narrated. It’s a shame as the story itself is engaging but the narrator has an overly dramatic style which makes everything sound cliched. If I had of read this as a book I’d have enjoyed it, unfortunately I felt like I was watching a poorly acted community drama group play.

Predictable
I guessed the twist fairly early on and found there was too much time spent making one character wholly unlikeable then suddenly a flurry to make them sympathetic again. Characters were a bit one dimensional and plot a bit dull.
