Publisher's Summary
In this highly anticipated new novel, Diana Gabaldon brings back one of her most compelling characters: the unforgettable Lord John Grey - soldier, gentleman, and no mean hand with a blade. Set in the heart of the 18th century, Lord John's world is one of mystery and menace. Diana Gabaldon brilliantly weaves together the strands of Lord John's secret and public lives.
Capturing the lonely, tormented, and courageous career of a man who fights for his crown, his honor, and his own secrets, Diana Gabaldon delivers breathtaking human drama, proving once again that she can bring history to life in a way few novelists ever have.

Scottish Prisoner
Whilst the story is excellent, I'm finding it hard having stories read by any other than Diana Porter who seems to be able to make a story and characters come to life with her ability to cover the roles of male and female, young and old, Scottish, English and French accents. No one comes close.

Enjoyed it.
Admittedly I had started reading this series because of Jamie Fraser and having finished the outlander series I felt somewhat missing the bloody Scott.!..I also really liked Lord John Grey...and enjoyed his view on the world and his sense of humour...so thought I would started the series. I enjoyed this book, the excellent script, plot and insight into the development of the relationship between the two men and Hal...God bless him...what was frustrating was the voice of Jamie..I found it lacking in depth and authenticity.

A lovely off shoot from ‘Outlander’
Great side story to the outlander series. Not as keen of the narration, simply because I found some Scots words miss pronounced which interrupted the flow of the story for me.

Annoying narration and recording quality
If it wasn’t for my love of Diana Gabaldon’s writing, I would have stopped listening to this awful narration during the first couple of chapters.
The constant switching from one narrator to the other, the incredibly bad Scottish accents and the poor recording quality with constant popping noises behind one narrator were extremely aggravating.
If I hadn’t already listened to Davina Porter’s impeccable narration of the Outlander series, I would have given up in annoyance. It was only the beautifully written story that kept me listening as the much loved characters drew me in.

Jamie sounds like...
Love this story - adds to the Outlander universe. Diana can do no wrong. The person who butchered the Scottish accent on the other hand...Jamie's "voice" was so annoying - he made Jamie sound like a shady Irishman who is living in an alley near the docks whose main job besides being shady was having no personality.
