Story
This is the story of how King Charles was shaped and moulded by his heritage. His mother was the woman he always loved but could never be close to. As Queen she held the Pandora’s box of the crown and all he could do was wait and learn. In his mother’s old age, he finally received the affection and respect from her he had craved for so long. This book documents his life through many personal anecdotes from his family and his friends from the moment the guns saluted his birth until St. Edwards Crown was placed on his head and he was officially declared as the King at his Coronation.

Story
...And What Do You Do? is a hard-hitting analysis of the royal family, exposing its extravagant use of public money and the highly dubious behaviour of some among its ranks, whilst being critical of the knee-jerk sycophancy shown by the press and politicians. Baker also considers the wider role the royals play in society, including the link with House of Lords reform, and the constitutional position of the monarch, which is important given Prince Charles’ present and intended approach.

There is quite a bit wrong with this book...
- By bikeboy83 on 18-03-2023
Publisher's Summary
Who was the real Diana? What was it like to be so privileged yet so anguished, so beloved yet so self-loathing, so spoiled yet so despairing? The Princess of Wales was all these things - far more complicated, conflicted and intriguing a person than the wildly disparate saint or lunatic she is frequently portrayed to be.
Royal insider Lady Colin Campbell sets the record straight on many of the most controversial aspects of Diana's turbulent life: how Charles and Diana's engagement came to pass, though it seemed ill-advised to those closest to both of them, what their honeymoon was really like, the truth behind Diana's bulimia, her widely reported suicide attempts and her obsession with Camilla Parker Bowles; Diana's search for love and fulfilment with numerous men before, during and after her marriage; her brilliant manipulations of the press and her relationship with Dodi Fayed.
Lady Colin Campbell's New York Times best-selling biography Diana in Private was the first to expose the truth about Diana and her troubled marriage. In The Real Diana, she reveals that the reason she knew so much about what went on behind the palace gates was because Diana herself was the source. Drawing upon these confidences - as well as on conversations with countless people who knew Diana and with Diana herself in the final years of her life - Lady Colin Campbell combines true insight with true compassion to bring us the most intimate and revealing portrait of the Princess of Wales that we will ever have.

Well Lady C you totally made me understand so much to which i had know idea . As much as I " Loved " Diana I was appalled by so much.
Thankfully we have Camilla and Charlie our King 🤴 and Queen 👸, watching them together brings much happiness and joy 😊.

A bit tedious and easily moves from one topic to another, but nevertheless sounds truthful and correct in its details.
It is certainly good to hear the “other side”, I’m grateful we have Camilla by Charles’ side.

Well written with compassion
I was never a fan of Diana but owing to Lady Colin’s account I now have great sympathy for her and understanding of her illness. I also commend Prince Charles for his duty to her. They were never suitable but fate intervened as after all William and Harry were meant to be born and they could not have been without them. May she Rest In Peace. Well written and narrated.

Loved it. Chock-full of incredible revelations. I'm astounded that anybody is still blinkered about who the real Diana was (yet millions are).
Whilst no complaints about the narrator, I would have loved to have heard Lady C narrating, herself.

Dull and Lifeless
I struggled to finish this book, largely due to the dullness of Lady Colin Campbell narration. I’ve listened to quite a few Royal and Lady Diana books which I have found most enjoyable. For the first time with Audible I found myself wandering off and thinking about other things which distracted from soaking in the story. There were many chapters that I had to rewind and give another go and didn’t find anything terribly revealing in the book that isn’t already largely known.
