Young Elly's world is shaped by those who inhabit it: her loving but maddeningly distractible parents; a best friend who smells of chips and knows exotic words like 'slag'; an ageing fop who tapdances his way into her home, a Shirley Bassey impersonator who trails close behind; lastly, of course, a rabbit called God. In a childhood peppered with moments both ordinary and extraordinary, Elly's one constant is her brother Joe. Twenty years on, Elly and Joe are fully grown and as close as they ever were. Following the enormous success of 2004 bestseller and critics' favorite Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Susanna Clarke delivers a delicious collection of ten stories set in the same fairy-crossed world of 19th-century England. With Clarke's characteristic historical detail and diction, these dark, enchanting tales unfold in a slightly distorted version of our own world, where people are bedeviled by mischievous interventions from the fairies.

Story
One of the 20th century's enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize-winning career. The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

Publisher's Summary
Bloomsbury presents Piranesi by Susanna Clarke, read by Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Winner of the 2021 Audie Awards Audiobook of the Year.
Winner of the 2021 Women's Prize for Fiction.
Shortlisted for The Costa Novel of The Year Award.
A Sunday Times and New York Times best seller.
Chosen as A Book of The Year by the Times, Guardian, Observer, Daily Telegraph, Financial Times, I Paper, New Statesman, Spectator, Time Magazine, Times Literary Supplement, BBC Culture, Netgalley and the Church Times.
The spectacular new audiobook from the best-selling author of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, ‘one of our greatest living authors,’ New York Magazine.
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has.
In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.
Messages begin to appear, scratched out in chalk on the pavements. There is someone new in the House. But who are they and what do they want? Are they a friend or do they bring destruction and madness as the Other claims?
Lost texts must be found, secrets must be uncovered. The world that Piranesi thought he knew is becoming strange and dangerous.
The beauty of the House is immeasurable; its kindness infinite.
Critic Reviews
"What a world Susanna Clarke conjures into being.... Piranesi is an exquisite puzzle-box." (David Mitchell)
"It’s always great to have some fiction to heartily recommend, and while there’s been stiff competition this year, Piranesi by Susanna Clarke has won out in the end. A masterful work of weird fiction, it’s a novel that grips, perplexes and moves you, usually all at once!" (Observer, The Best Books of 2020)
"The fiction, nonfiction and poetry that deepened our understanding, ignited our curiosity and helped us escape.... For fantasy readers often eager to get lost in mystical worlds and escape the complications of real life, Piranesi’s predicament deeply resonates." (Time, Books of the Year)

Beautifully read, beautifully written
Piranesi is a beautifully written fiction that touches on concepts of perceived reality, personal truths and mental health. It’s brought to life so well by Chiwetel Ejiofor. I went into it with no prior knowledge, and was enamoured the whole time. Fully recommend.

Enthralling. great writing and narration
this book is like a window into another world. as you follow the main characters perspective you are taken on a journey and discover the plot unfold as he does. the world Susanna Clarke creates os so well described and imagined that it feels real and believable. I would not have enjoyed this book as much in written form as the narrator does an absolutely excellent job and ads so much emotion and expression u just wouldn't get in writing. this book, although very much fantasy, really makes u look at the world around you differently and at people with more empathy.

Brilliant
I love this style of semi-real, semi-other worldly story. The narration is incredible, I often choose audio books by narrator nowadays and I was sad to find I couldn't fine another narration by Chiwetel Ejoifor. I hope he does many more. The story is quite literary, and whilst it does have action and intrigue, there is much poetry of life to listen to first.

Hauntingly beautiful and touching
I struggled through the first section of this book, but based on the advice of other readers kept on while the world was brought to life. I'm so glad, this was definitely my favourite book of the year, and may even be one of my favourite books ever. Hauntingly beautiful, I found this novel both deeply moving and addictive - one I'm sure I will return to.
