Story
“One morning, as Gregor Samsa was waking up from anxious dreams, he discovered that in bed he had been changed into a monstrous verminous bug.” With this startlingly bizarre sentence, Kafka begins his masterpiece, The Metamorphosis. It is the story of a young traveling salesman who, transformed overnight into a giant, beetle-like insect, becomes an object of disgrace to his family, an outsider in his own home, a quintessentially alienated man. Rather than being surprised at the transformation, the members of his family despise it as an impending burden upon themselves.

Colourful
Loved it beautifully written. The narrator captured the voices of all the characters. The most memorable part would be at the end.

Great on so many levels
As a stand alone story about an individual, this is great. As a social commentary, it is stunning. I found it absolutely fascinating and went on to find out more about the author and the times in which she lived, including societal norms and laws. I hope we have made progress but sometimes wonder. Tess Thompson is the perfect narrator and brings depth of emotion to this book which simply reading it may not have.
