Story
A story of friendship, courage and a bit of crime. Bridget wants a quiet life, including, if possible, keeping her parents out of prison. Then a boy called Menzies makes her an offer she can't refuse, and they set off on a job of their own. It's a desperate, daring plan, to rescue two kids, Jamal and Bibi, from a desert detention centre. Can Bridget and Menzies pull off their very first jail break, or will they end up behind bars too? Sometimes to help a friend, you have to dig deep.

Story
Since a deadly virus and the violence that followed wiped out his parents and most of his community, Finn has lived alone on the rugged coast with only his loyal dog, Rowdy, for company. He has stayed alive for two winters—hunting and fishing and trading food, and keeping out of sight of the Wilders, an armed and dangerous gang that controls the north, led by a ruthless man named Ramage. But Finn’s isolation is shattered when a girl runs onto the beach. Rose is a Siley—an asylum seeker—and she has escaped from Ramage, who had enslaved her and her younger sister, Kas.

this book is incredible
I want to tell you the story of me reading this book as it will tell you about my review the start of the book was hard to get through and it took me about 2 weeks to get through the first third of the book but after that it started getting really good and I could not stop listening and it was amazing. I read over an hour of a book in one day it was incredible and I loved it. even though I did not do this reading by choice as it was a book given to me to read for school I'm so grateful that I read it and finished it. I'm writing this review just after I finished it so you get my freshmind straight out of this book and I'm moved by what happened at this time and how sad the holocaust was.

A new gripping view of the Holocaust
Even though this book is fiction, it still gives the reader a new way to look at the Holocaust. The book is about a boy called Felix, who is living in Poland in 1942. Wise beyond his years, this book shows his life and how he trys to survive the Holocaust. With his best friend Zelda by his side, this is a great tale of survival. Because of some of the topics of violence and death, this is a good book for ages 9 and up.

Enjoyed by my children. Addicted.
5 star. 9 year old and 11 year old boy and girl both captivated. Keen to read and listen to the whole series. My daughter searched you tube for the movie. Was disappointed. Not sure that I would let her watch the movie but great to listen together, explain, learn and be entertained in a very moving way.

A true classic
A beautiful, emotional story exploring a grotesque piece of history, through the lens of a young story teller. From the brutal self-discoveries, to the touching maturity and loyalty to one's friends, Once is a timeless piece that will never fail to bring me to tears.
Amidst a swamp of ghost writers and recycled junk of today's children and YA literature scene, Morris Gleitzman continues to hold a true classic that avid readers of all ages and backgrounds should have on their list.
