A weekly newspaper dedicated to the weird and the wonderful (but mostly the weird), The Stranger Times is the go-to publication for the unexplained and inexplicable. At least that's their pitch. The reality is rather less auspicious. Their editor is a drunken, foul-tempered and foul-mouthed husk of a man who thinks little of the publication he edits. His staff are a ragtag group of misfits. And as for the assistant editor...well, that job is a revolving door - and it has just revolved to reveal Hannah Willis, who's got problems of her own.

These books get better and better!
The Dresden Files started off pretty weak (wasn't overly keen on the first two books) but they held a certain appeal that I couldn't quite put my finger on, so I kept on reading. Butcher's writing has improved dramatically and his narratives have become consistantly more complex and dynamic with every book. Dresden's cheesy one liners, which I initially put down to bad writing, have actually grown on me and have become an integral part of his character, making him unique and likeable and ultimately believable.

Such a great listen, James is a genius for this.
So good to listen to. James Marsters does so so well with the range of voices. His efforts really have brought this series to life for me.

Enjoyable
have to admit I skipped though some of the chapters rather fast as the details and complex nature of the intertwined stories were getting in the way of the main story! I've read the book though. Love this period in the Dresden narrative. as usual Mr Marsters does not disappoint in his reading style 😊

Dresden just keeps getting better.
Jim Butcher’s writing improves each book I listen to. James Marsters voice is now Harry Dresden when I think of it. You always know who is talking with his performance.

Every book a masterpiece
This is my fourth listen-through of this series. This is, hands down, my favourite book series. You won't regret taking the time to listen.

Love the elements that get brought into it
Underestimated Butcher's reasons for sometimes glossing over a detail or explanation, but now several books in, it's clear that he has left himself a great deal of scope to enrich his world. Also in that vein, why kill off a good bad-guy when you can just fake their death, have the characters realise it and build some tension for a book or two?

The series improves with each book
Building on the previous novels in the series. The plot is well constructed without leaving holes. The characters continue to become more nuanced. Recommended.

Great book favourite so far
Characters and story move faster than the last book and feels like a big step forward for the series having characters come back and grow.

On the up and up
Fans of the series will love this one. Those who are not quite sold yet will likely see that the series is ramping up in terms of storyline, character development and complexity.
This book starts to wind in characters and concepts from previous books in such a way as to answer many of the readers questions about the background of Harry.
Performance is good, definitely much better than the first couple of books. Master seems much more committed to his reading performance, or perhaps was just more experienced in this and the last 2 books as he has becoming considerably more engaging and seems to have a better grasp of the voice of Harry.
Listen to it. Now.
