Story
Ex-Special Forces operator Tom Keeler is a rambling man. He’s just passing through the town of Alencourt, France, and in less than an hour, someone tries to kill him. Nice place, nice try. But it’s a case of mistaken identity, and they picked the wrong guy. The French police can’t be trusted, except for the beautiful Cecile Nazari. She finds out fast that keeping up with Keeler is a dangerous occupation. Because someone’s preying on the weak and unprotected. Someone murderous. Great but not for the purist
What did you like most about Better Off Dead?
A thrilling, fast paced yarn.
What other book might you compare Better Off Dead to, and why?
Identical concept to Mark Dawson's John Milton series. A magnetic concept done well.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Thorough research results in excellent detail. The larger-than-life characters are plausible in a fictional context.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Nothing. The character accents are good; tonal nuances well placed and performed.
Any additional comments?
This a book, indeed the entire Tom Wood series, is top schoolboy adventure stuff but it isn't for purists who can't live with the fictional license of being beyond reasonable possibility. This is pure fiction where anything goes- and is allowed to.

Loved it
When I began this book I was not sure if it was my sort of book but as it progressed it drew me in to a different world. I thought the ending was the best part. An intense book all the way through but the ending unexpectedly made me chuckle.

Victor strangles a redhead and more
This audiobook gets off to a slow start without much action however it really starts picking up a few hours in. Victor's role becomes more complicated than in previous titles in that he's thrown into a bodyguard and protection role. The characters are well fleshed out with highly descriptive fight scenes and a truly despicable bad guy.

4th in the series is almost as good as the others
What made the experience of listening to Better Off Dead the most enjoyable?
Philpott delivers again demonstrating that great narration is as important as a good storyline.
Any additional comments?
A twist on the previous three Victor books with him playing protector rather than assassin. It worked well and the storyline was still fast paced.
The only reason I gave this book an 'overall' 4, rather than a 5, is that I have listened to the series in relatively quick succession and hence there was a small element of 'repetitive format' this time around ... but it is still a very entertaining read / listen.

A different side of Victor
Love the Victor series and this one does not disappoint. However as a slight change of roles for Victor, we almost get to see the human side of this ruthless assassin. There are moments when It looks like Victor has met his match, but as always his calculating analytical mind gets him through. Highly recommended to anyone who loves this series, but if your new to this assassin then go back and start at the beginning.
Now onto the next chapter of the life of a man who has way more than just nine lives!
