After eighteen years as a political prisoner in the Bastille, the ageing Doctor Manette is finally released and reunited with his daughter in England. There the lives of two very different men, Charles Darnay, an exiled French aristocrat, and Sydney Carton, a disreputable but brilliant English lawyer, become enmeshed through their love for Lucie Manette. Story
Here in a single volume is the entire, unabridged recording of Gibbon's masterpiece. Beginning in the second century A.D. at the apex of the Pax Romana, Gibbon traces the arc of decline and complete destruction through the centuries across Europe and the Mediterranean. It is a thrilling and cautionary tale of splendor and ruin, of faith and hubris, and of civilization and barbarism. Follow along as Christianity overcomes paganism... before itself coming under intense pressure from Islam.

Publisher's Summary
Embark on an epic journey in this all-star cast audio dramatisation of Around the World in 80 Days. This new Original drama features best-in-class performances from Golden Globe-nominee, Emmy-nominee and multiple BAFTA-nominee Toby Jones (The Girl, Directorists, The Hunger Games) as Phileas Fogg, George Blagden (Versailles, Black Mirror, Vikings) as Jean Passerpartout and Don Gilet (Eastenders, Dr Who) as Detective Fix amongst others.
One of the most celebrated tales of all time, Around the World in 80 Days is part high-octane thriller, part fascinating fantasy travelogue. Pragmatic gambler Phileas Fogg has made a gentlemanly wager to the members of his exclusive club: that he can circle the world in just 80 days, right down to the minute.
Fetching his newly appointed French valet, Fogg embarks on a fabulous journey across land and sea - by steamer, rail, and elephant - to win the bet of a lifetime.
Inspired by Jules Verne’s own sea travels and his fascination with circumnavigating the globe, the avid dreamer's picaresque voyage inspired generations of adventurers who were eager to best Verne's challenge - from 19th century journalist Nellie Bly to Monty Python's Michael Palin.
Featuring: George Blagden, Christopher Brandon, John Chancer, Scarlett Courtney, Josh Cowdery, Tim Delap, Sartaj Garewal, Don Gilet, Chris Grahamson, David Holt, Ryan Forde Iosco, Toby Jones, Peter Luke Kenny, Naveed Khan, Christos Lawton, Jack Monaghan, Raad Rawi, Vineeta Rishi, Luke Roskell, Richard Rycroft, Adam Sims, Thomas Stroppel, Homer Todiwala, Matilda Tucker, Amy Vicary-Smith, Julian Wadham, Georgia Warlow, Orlando Wells, Sarah Whitehouse and Sam Woolf.

Fabulous fast paced adventure
Rip roaring adventure with a great range of characters getting themselves into and out of sticky situations. Loved the cast, loved the sound effects and the little musical interludes between chapters. A really fun and immersive story. Naturally some views on cultures are outdatedly offensive, but I loved that the female protagonist was more ballsy than the other characters expected her to be.

overrated
honestly not worth the time, its a good attempt but its almost an epoch of cliches and ignorance railroading a story, pitiful ending.
