Story
Gladys Berejiklian was Australia's rockstar premier. The first woman elected to lead NSW, she steered the state through devastating bushfires, drought and a once-in-a-generation pandemic with a steady hand. To many, she was 'The Woman Who Saved Australia' for the way in which she navigated the first wave of COVID, with a sterling reputation as a dedicated and reliable public servant. But for all of her premiership, and well before, Berejiklian was harbouring a secret. That secret would eventually bring down one of the country's most deeply respected leaders.

Story
Between 2013 and 2022, Tony Abbott begat Malcolm Turnbull, who begat Scott Morrison. For nine long years, Australia was governed by a succession of Coalition governments rocked by instability and bloodletting, and consumed with prosecuting climate and culture wars while neglecting policy. By the end, among his detractors—and there were plenty—Morrison was seen as the worst prime minister since Billy McMahon. Morrison failed to accept the mantle of national leadership, or to deal adequately with the challenges of natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Story
Australians came to the ABC's The Killing Season in droves, their fascination with the Rudd-Gillard struggle as unfinished as the saga itself. Rudd and Gillard dominate the drama as they strain to claim the narrative of Labor's years in power. The journey to screen for each of their interviews is telling in itself. Kevin Rudd gives his painful account of the period and recalls in vivid detail the events of losing the prime ministership. Julia Gillard is frank and unsparing of her colleagues.

David Litt was one of those 20-somethings. After graduating from college in 2008, he went straight to the Obama campaign. In 2011 he became one of the youngest White House speechwriters in history.

In July 2004, Barack Obama electrified the Democratic National Convention with an address that spoke to Americans across the political spectrum. Now, in The Audacity of Hope, Senator Obama calls for a different brand of politics: a politics for those weary of bitter partisanship and alienated by the "endless clash of armies" we see in Congress and on the campaign trail; a politics rooted in the faith, inclusiveness, and nobility of spirit at the heart of "our improbable experiment in democracy".

Authenticity. Vulnerability. Humility. Transparency. These are some of the 21st-century virtues proselytized by mindset gurus, paraded (if not practiced) by big corporations, and lauded by professionals on LinkedIn. The quest for authenticity, for example, is central to progressive campaigns for greater diversity and inclusion, while our political and business leaders are highest praised if they appear to be humble. But are Australia’s newest virtues fit for purpose? In this provocative book, Lucinda Holdforth questions the new orthodoxy.

A collection of great advice and stories

Publisher's Summary
Candid and compelling, A Bigger Picture is the definitive narrative of Malcolm Turnbull’s prime ministership. He describes how he legalised same-sex marriage, established Snowy Hydro 2.0, stood up to Donald Trump and many achievements – remarkable in their pace and significance, and that they were delivered in the teeth of so much opposition.
But it’s far more than just politics. Turnbull’s life has been filled with colourful characters and controversies, success and failure. From his early years in Sydney, growing up with a single father, to defending ‘Spycatcher’ Peter Wright against the UK government; the years representing Kerry Packer, leading the Republican Movement and making millions in business; and finally toppling Tony Abbott to become Prime Minister of Australia. For the first time he tells it all - in his own words.
With revelatory insights on the workings of Canberra and the contentious events of Turnbull’s life, A Bigger Picture explores the strengths and vulnerabilities of one of Australia’s best-known and most dynamic business and political leaders.

Insightful
In the days leading up to it's release, the media and mp's mentioned herein, collectively sought to discredit what I can recommend to you as an incredibly enjoyable read. There are times in politics where we debate amongst our peers as citizens, why a particular decision was made, or what was discussed that led to that decision. I have always valued Malcom's views, pragmatic business sense and progressive in the climate space, with an understanding of how to link the global concern with economic opportunities. He was a visionary for Australian politics. I did not find this book vindictive in tone or an attempt to slander his former colleagues. I would say that he expresses views that are both praiseful for strong peformance and loyalty to the elected leader, party and Australia, while unfiltered where appropriate and as a human being with a pulse, understandable.

Worth it!
The known few in the media and some politicians (all of whom are mentioned within this book) and their attempt to discredit and malign from the truth taken on face-value, all fall desperately flat.
Malcolm tells the story of the plight of the average Aussie citizen to the whim of egos in Canberra, and those powerful few in media. Albeit not his primary intention, I am certain.
A Bigger Picture is eye-opening, if not eye-watering to the back-door tactics of Australian politics. Incredible stories, narrated brilliantly. I recommend this book to anyone with the slightest interest in Australian politics.

Was a good read until the NBN chapter
Very well narrated by MT. A great insight into the life and rise of someone who could have made a great difference to Australian politics but in some way, ended up selling his soul.
Thoroughly enjoyed the read / listen right up until the chapter about the NBN, had to skip that chapter. The book would be 5 stars without the NBN chapter.
Worth a read / listen but skip the NBN chapter.

A magnificent audiobook
This is an extraordinary work which is comprehensive in scope. It is worth listening to for the policy detail alone, let alone the politics. Nor does it matter which side of politics you subscribe to. It is also a very human story and there is something quite compelling in having the former Prime Minister narrate the book as if you were in the room with him. Extraordinary.
